**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Lake Thunderbird State Park is open again to the public after recent extreme weather events. All areas are ready to receive campers, except for the Little Axe and Fisherman's Point Campgrounds. Little Axe and Fisherman's Point are scheduled to open in spring 2011. The Little River Marina is also closed due to the storm damage. Signs are posted in boat ramp areas to warn boaters of possible existing hazards. Thank you for your patience as the park rebuilds these areas. Lake Thunderbird State Park offers a variety of water activities and recreation. The park features two marinas, Calypso Cove Marina and Little River Marina, nine boat ramps and a swim beach. The Discovery Cove Nature Center where the adventure begins is in the Clear Bay area. Deer archery and waterfowl hunting is available in specified areas during the season. Horseback riding, boarding and hay rides are available at Thunderbird Riding Stables. An array of hiking, mountain biking and nature trails are also available in Lake Thunderbird State Park. Accommodations include over 200 RV sites with 30 full hookup sites, restroom facilities and primitive campsites. The trail seemed to be closed to authorized personnel only. But there is a trail to the side of the sign that was public. The trail was obviously not used often. I went shortly after a storm so there were branches blocking several parts of the trail. There were beautiful wild flowers everywhere and my dog liked the different plants.

Not bad trail. Super easy. But so many ticks!! We were covered in them. Took the road back instead of the trail to try and avoid more ticks!
