591-acre Independence Dam State Park is situated along the banks of the beautiful Maumee River The river is ideal for boating, fishing or a scenic canoe trip

My GPS put me on the state highway with no sign of the path anywhere and no place to park. Actually the start of the path was just on the other side of a muddy creek by the highway... I just could not get there. The correct point of entry is the Independence Dam State Park. I parked by the dam and hiked about 2.5 miles through the park to the beginning of the toe path. The path itself is on a narrow strip of land between the muddy creek on one side and the river on the other. It is a level path through nature and makes for a good fitness hike. There are mile markers on wooden stakes every quarter mile on the toe path. The round trip from the parking place by the dam is 10 miles. It is possible to drive to the start of the toe path. From there it would be 5 miles to the bridge at the end and back.
