Mostly gravel and some runs through the forest on the middle mile

This trail goes through some very scenic areas. From woods to prairies, there is a lot to see. I encountered lots of wildlife and there is a pond with a very nice boardwalk that crosses the entire length. If you enjoy getting in touch with nature, then this is the trail for you!

This is a nice, easy trail that is gravel and well maintained. Perfect for folks with mobility or endurance issues.

Nice loop trail. Well maintained and easy to follow. There is a nice wildlife viewing blind not far from the beginning where you can stop and enjoy the wildlife in the area. Mostly flat and there are a couple of swampy areas once you get into the woods. Nothing horrible, but I wouldn't wear sandals. Overall a great, relaxing walk.

Nice 3 mile trail. Easy to hike. Wildlife was the best part of this hike. Seen a couple deer in the middle of the day. I highly recommend this trail if your into nature.

Very easy trail, also pretty boring. Most of the trail is a gravel road. The small part of the trail in the woods provided breathtaking views, but it was a very short time spent in the woods. I’d skip this one.

Nice trail, well maintained and marked. Mix of gravel road into some forest area along a creek. Lots of wildlife viewing opportunity, specially birds.

Fernald Preserve contains three out and back trails totaling 6 miles which run through mixed forested and prairie settings. They are all flat and easy and include some hiking on preserve roadways. The northern Hickory Trail is three miles long and includes a bird blind. To the south is the 1.9 mile Sycamore Trail and .7 mile Shingle Oak Trail which are both connected and include a number of side trails to areas of interest. There is also a museum in the center that tells the history of the Fernald Plant and its cleanup.
