Good trail for local residents. Park area is fun for kids. No spectacular views but nice walk through forest.

Please be aware that this trail is a mountain bike trail and is not meant to be used by hikers as they present a hazard for cyclists. Several of the reviews on this trail describe the Ridge, Meadows, and Homesite trails that are located in the Chestnut Ridge Metro Park on the east side of Amanda Northern Road. If you are looking to review the metro park hiking trails, please post on the "Chestnut Ridge - Homesite, Meadows, and Ridge Trail" link, which is a much more hiker- and family-friendly trail.

Located off SR-33 between Columbus and Lancaster, Chestnut Ridge is the first ridge in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The site of the Metro Park was originally a quarry for the sandstone used in the canal locks along the Athens spur of the Ohio and Erie Canal. The property was then bought by Dr. Edward Campbell who built a homestead near the top of the ridge and the property was later donated to be used as this park. People often sit on the benches in the homestead property to read. Now that SR-33 has a bypass past Carroll, only the park-goers know about this hidden gem. The wide variety of trees and a constant change of scenery make this trail worth the drive. Adjacent to, but not connected with, this park is also the Chestnut Ridge mountain bike park that features a 5-mile "easy" loop and a 4-mile "moderate" loop.

What lovely trails! The information here isn't quite right though. There's 2 bike trails that total nearly 10 miles. There's 3 gravel hiking trails totalling about 3 miles. It's kind of eerie seeing 100s of chesnut tree skeletons all over the hillsides, some still standing, but a beautiful sight nonetheless.

Trail was closed even though the ranger said it was open yesterday. What’s changed? Very disappointed.

Well maintained trail. Parking area with a few small ponds.

trail closed when we went by on 7/24...will re rate once we get a chance to check it out

Couldn't walk the mountain bike trail been over there 3 times and its always closed. I'll go elsewhere tired of driving over there for nothing the homestead trail is fine if you want a shorter walk.. I gave the trail one star because I I had to pick a star. I don't know if the trail is any good or not for obvious reasons.

Was disappointed that I wasn't able to hike the longer mountain biking trail and it rained while I was there. Nice park with a variety of scenery. Walked the loop twice.

My Cross Country team does our Winter Training here. The hills can be a little steep, but it helps with the XC season. It's a beautiful placce in Spring and Summer, as well.

I grew up hiking this trail. I love it. It's a quick, easy hike when you're short on time. There's a lot of history here as well. I will always recommend.

This park offers 2 mountain biking trails and separate hiking trail. This review is for Hiking. I found this to be a great for a workout or a stroll depending on direction. If you go right, its a march to the top of the hill, If you go left, its a bit easier of a start. Great view of downtown Columbus Ohio in the fall, winter and spring but thick vegetation spoils the summer view. Trail is mostly unimproved or rock. Dont miss the albino squirrels or friendly deer.

The 7.5 mile loop is pretty awesome! Kinda extreme, great climbs and tricky turns, gets fast and is a good distance. Will be going back weekly!
