Easy trail run

Dogs had a blast and there are so many trails to turn off on and explore.

Great hike for stretching your legs.

Found a parking spot near the trail head. It was a lovely walk with lots to see in early spring. First half is all uphill. Gravel road calls for hard soled hiking shoes not sneakers.

Network makes for a nice pick and choose hike, with a lovely rambling stream, but for mountain bikers it's a dream. Asheville NC

Great hike! Perfect 9ish mile trek - nice incline and descent and a couple of spots with beautiful views. Make sure to follow the digital map on AllTrails or you can get turned around on other trails that intersect.

Did the smaller loop but it was easy enough with a 5 year old.

Nice, pretty trail. A lot of mountain bikers around but enough space for bikers and hikers on most parts of the trail. Parked in the area before the “fees” sign by the bathroom. Walk up past the fee sign and there’s a ranger station, we asked him for directions to the trail. If you don’t take the connector and keep going to the left at that point, the trail ends at the lake.

Took our two small dogs here. We were impressed with the condition of the trail. It was very nice to walk on and great to just get some time in outdoors. Very easy hike. Make sure you park at the bottom/end of the road. Don’t go past the gate where there is a sign for a fee. You need to park in the areas at the bottom of that hill then walk up that road for about half a mile to get to the entrance of the trail.

Fun and an easy place to run!

The climb from the parking lot to where the Hickory Loop track intersects is about 3 miles uphill. Excellent workout, and the descent is well worth the climb.

Have walked these trails numerous times while living in the Asheville area. Nice area to spend an afternoon.

Wonderful scenery, great for dogs, some bikers, great parking area

Pretty, easy-going trail. Great for a hike in the woods with your dog. Close to Asheville and pretty well-marked except for a couple of crossings where I was glad I had the AllTrails app!

It's a nice hike, although there is really no scenery. My biggest complaint is that once you get to the top, you're basically walking on a road for two miles. This would be a much better trail for mountain biking or if you just wanted to exercise rather. If going in the summer, be advised that there will be a LOT of people on this and surrounding trails.

Wonderfully short, but beautiful hike! No crazy altitude views, but incredibly beautiful and lush forest with a hidden historic homestead, and plenty of water crossings. I would definitly recommend this in the summer as it has a lot of shade. The only downfall is the parking and the beginning of the trail is a bit hard to find, however you can really mix and match the trail to add or decrease it's length.

Nice easy road but if you're hiking watch out for the bikers!

This is an excellent trail for hiking, biking, and fishing since the trail follows the river. Park at the main lot for Hard Times Road and begin down the gravel road. If you turn right at the first intersection it leads to Lake Powhatan. Turn left and it eventually leads to the NC Arboretum. There are places to stop and enjoy the flowers and river.

Great trail for beginners

Frequent favorite of ours. Brought our little one here beginning around 4yrs old. Just be careful with the little ones around the small bridge, where they love to throw rocks and leaves into the stream below. It doesn't have any railings. Our kiddo took a header off the bridge & got four stitches.

This is a popular area in a campground. That being said, in the winter it is a great area for a relaxing hike. Although the parking lot was full, we encountered only a couple people during our hike. This is a popular place for mountain biking. There are several creek crossings affording a chance to filter out some water. These creeks are shallow in most areas, so bring something to scoop with. The first third of the trail is actually a road. This is the only way in during the off-season, and is very easy. There are also a few small fields along the trail perfect for a hammock hang, tarp shelter, or just a good ol cup of coffee. Overall, a short and sweet hike.

Fun and great trail to take your dogs out!

We enjoyed this trail on Sunday! Hiked to lake Powhatan, even though it's more of a pond, it's beautiful and has some good fishing and this section below the lake is hatchery supported all the way down until you reach the arboretum where there is no fishing. You can make this hike as short or as long as you like. Heavily trafficked area but other than that we enjoyed it and will be going again soon!

This is a very nice, clear, graveled trail. Some gradual elevations. Very few people using it, perhaps because we went on a Thursday morning/afternoon. Enjoyed this with my Mastiff.

Very pretty forest views. I included this trail with my visit to the NC Arboretum.

Great for trail running

Wide trail, easy elevation. Good groups of hikers.

Super convenient to Asheville in location. Heavily trafficked. Look for Biltmore in the distance when the trees are bare.

Good hike, to much gravel road. Lots of bikers.
