beautiful river trail

Awesome views! Just wish the actual top of the tower was accessible. It’s locked due to vandalism.

Amazing views for minimal effort. Perfect place to watch the sunrise!

Loved hiking this with my husband. We go every August (since we started dating). Love the time in the woods (keep an open mind you won't see many views.) The views are worth it. The top is touristy so we break eat lunch off the trail on our way down for privacy. It took us 3 hours to get up and 2 1/2 -3 to get down. :)

Holy uphill. This one was a little difficult.

Great hike, very strenuous in the summer months. Bring poles as there are numerous wet sections with slippery rocks. Having two cars and parking one at the top of the mountain is nice and allows for a one way hike to the top.

What a beautiful place for a hike and you have the option of seeing the upper and the lower waterfalls. Very well-traveled trails although some spots are very muddy, rocky, and narrow. Sometimes the trail can be a bit confusing as well so really pay attention to the signs. But it’s quite lovely there and a great work out, I would consider this to be an easy to moderate hike but be prepared for a lot of Rocky, rutty and muddy conditions. There is quite a bit of parking, as well as a restroom.

I only hiked 2 miles. Mostly flat to small incline trail in the woods with a beautiful creek near the beginning.

First up, the drive in is off-road and on gravel. You will undergo some major switchbacks and curves while driving in the last 20-30 minutes until the trailhead. There’s no formal parking lot, so be prepared to park alongside the bushes. We hiked this loop counter clockwise which we thought was very easy and doable. In doing so, it was mostly downhill trekking with occasional creek crossings. My hiking group thought this trail was easy. No major challenges or fallouts during the hike. However, the waterfall that overlooks the top view has a huge opportunity for fun and potential danger. We slid down the water-covered-incline and found it was enjoyable (at first). Be wary! One of us ended up continuing down and off the edge where she flew off. She survived with minor flesh wounds. It was all fun and games until it happened. Otherwise, the trail was overgrown, not well-marked, simple and easy.

stop here 9-26-17 at one of my most favorite overlooks on the parkway is graveyard fields located at milepost 418.8. not only do you have this stunning views but you can do a short hike doing down to the lower falls and a second hike just a little longer to the upper falls. i didn't have time to go the the upper falls but take a left out of the parking lot as just around the bend you can see the upper falls from the roadside. if you hike to the upper falls than the lower falls and back to the parking lot the loop is 2.9 miles. at one time between 500 to 1000 years ago the was a spruce forest that was burned down leaving dirt mounds and the forest did return but fires got it again in 1925. this spot is very popular and there are bathrooms. if you only have time to see one thing on the parkway. this would be an excellent pick

Very easy trail, especially with kids and a dog. The incline was a little rough for me because I am not used to it but take it easy. We enjoyed it and the refreshing water is nice to cool off in!

Gorgeous views at the top. Perfect for an easy, quick evening hike to feel like you're on top of the world.

Highly recommend this trail. We went on a Thursday and still a good amount of people on the trail. I don’t think I would try it on a weekend. It was a pretty easy walk. Towards the end a little more tougher terrain for little one/pets. The view worth it!

It was extremely foggy the morning my dog and I hiked but by noon the fog had cleared and it was a great hike. The views were amazing after the fog cleared. There are tons of rocks on the trail but the climbs did not seem that bad. I'm now having my dog wear hiking boots and she loved climbing all the rocks. I'd strongly recommend this trail.

Good workout to the top. No views till you get to Callaway Peak. Three ladders to climb at top along with cables. It's very steep the last half mile. The plane wreck is to the right of the last campground up top. I started at Asutsi Trailhead then connected into Tanawha. The kiosk at Boone Fork Bridge has permits. I met the crew repairing Cragway and Nuwati Trails and those trails should be open in September, along with bridge. Short hike on Tanawha then connect to DBST. I'm whooped!
