On my watch I had this hike (round trip) clocked at 12.62 miles. While the view at the top had one nice vantage point, it’s hard to enjoy when the first thing you see at the summit is a parking lot. After hiking 6+ miles it feels so anticlimactic when nothing about the top is natural. I think it’s so important to have such beautiful well maintained mountain tops like this so everyone of all abilities can access the peak. However, I would not recommend taking the 5+ hours to hike up and back if you want the experience and euphoria of reaching the top and feeling immersed and surrounded by the nature. Edited to add: The trail however was gorgeous. So scenic and green. Which is also important to note since it’s not always about the view from the top!

Great short trail to some cool rock formations, beautiful rhododendron and mountain laurel. Lots of steps but short and easy overall. Can be crowded.

Combined this with Grindstone and Ledge Spring to add a climb to the Pinnacles. The Mountain trail is a gradual up and down and pretty easy, beautiful wide open forest and well maintained along the way. The trail at times was a stream bed due to recent rains. Mountain Laurel and Rhodos were blooming and beautiful. We found an Eastern Painted Box Turtle and a frog. On a misty day, there were not many on this trail considering it was Memorial Day. There are a couple access points/parking areas. Good family hike and a nice walk in the woods, enjoy.

Hiked this on a misty Memorial Day. Going clockwise from the trailhead, the Mountain trail portion is a gradual slope and pretty easy, beautiful forest well maintained along the way. The trail at times was a stream bed due to recent rains. Taking a right turn at the Grindstone trail sends you uphill but not steep. The app tracks the old trail along the cliffs. It's been rerouted as evidenced by the cut trees and debris thrown over the old trail. The app will let you know when you're off trail. May be good to redo the track for the new trail. We picked our way up along the climbing area, some was inaccessible due to erosion control. We had to slip through a fence to get back onto the main trail to Little Pinnacle and on to Jomeokee and around Big Pinnacle, which was shrouded in clouds the whole time. But the Mountain Laurel and Rhodos were blooming and beautiful. We took the Ledge Spring Trail down with water rolling off the cliffs, which with all the steps can be hard on the knees. We found a couple of box turtles, a frog and some deer when we were leaving. We actually drove back up after completing the hike with the hopes the heavens would open up to reveal Big Pinnacle. We were not disappointed as it opened up just as we got there. We enjoyed the hike even though with parks opening back up and crowds due to it being a holiday, think closing the park at 11AM and the misty weather kept it enjoyable. I recommend this 10-11 mile hike.for a good workout and lots of variety along the way.

Nice trail. Not too hard but just a little hard for an ok workout. For most of it, it’s just a nice pleasant walk in the woods. Has a little view of vista at top of elevation and some cool little waterfalls

This trail was very easy and not very impressive. It should in no way be rated moderate. It would be better described as a short stroll through the woods to a river bank. My dog did enjoy a short swim in the river. The current was fairly swift and she was on a long leash for her swim.

I am a large person. 6' 300lbs. low end of moderate fitness level. this trail is great. I would define it as easy end of moderate spectrum. there is a lengthy uphill grade back to the trail head but i was able to accomplish it without stopping. it has wonderful river views for most of the trail. it also has a camping site with Picnic tables. it is a great spot for a weekend outing with the family. I also recommend it for the larger folks that use this app.

We parked at the Corridor trail head parking lot and picked up the mountain trail just across the street. We hiked to the grindstone and across to the summit via the spring ledge trail. We loved the whole hike, and it was especially awesome as the park is closed on the weekends now (meaning you can't enter the park at the main gates and must hike in from further away), so the crowds were really light. The whole time we were on the mountain trail section it was beautiful rolling woods with some rocky sections, and some pine tree sections mixed in with mostly hardwoods. This side of the mountain seemed preferable as you're further from the highway road noise). It's winter still so you actually get some pretty views of pilot mountain through the trees early on in the hike. Further into the hike it just kept getting more interesting and beautiful, especially the south section of spring ledge trail, and the whole Jomeokee trail loop (had it to ourself) circling the summit. Spectacular views. I can't imagine being up here on a sunny day. It was the perfect day hike.

There is an awesome view of Pilot Mtn Knob. On previous reviews about the rocks, it is only when you are close to the Knob and it is t bad at all. Well kept trail with 3 small creek crossings. The only thing that kept me from five stars is the Hwy 52 noise

Used this trail to loop around from the Yadkin Island Trail and after hiking the Bean Shoals Canal. I continued on to the Horne Creek Trail up until the RxR. I didn't see a clear path from the rest of the trail back to the Yadkin Island Trail so I didn't chance to go all the way. There was a part of the hike that was washed out pretty badly. If you go around closer to the river, you can get by that way much easier. (2 young boys that were way ahead of their family showed me the little path to get through).

This was a nice hike today. There are few creeks to cross over at the beginning of this trail. On the way back, I took the road so I could see the little log cabin. I took the trail to the river and then hiked both ways up and down the bean Shoals canal trail. There is a small bridge if you hike to the very end of the horne creek trail to get back to the rail road tracks. PS. Seems you can take your vehicle closer to the trail if it can drive through a creek. Turn at the little log cabin and drive down there till you find parking.

Nice trail. I went to both ends of the trail. I came back on the rail road tracks until I got to the Trail leading back toward the parking lot. There is a little bridge at the end of the trail to cross the swamp. I couldn't tell if the trail leading up from there actually would meet up with the original trail, so I didn't take the chance with rain coming in. My video of the trail: https://youtu.be/kJXur1cbxpQ

Had a wonderful time exploring the area around the big pinnacle.

Good 9+ mile hike to get up early for. Did the Mountain Trail around the base before heading up to the top. Did the rock climbing side, Ledge Spring Trail, up and the Grindstone Trail down. Would probably do it in opposite direction unless you want a solid workout. Ledge Spring is very staircase-like but gave great views to the south. Grindstone was getting some work done so it followed an alternate route but an all around great hike for views and a workout!

I enjoyed the trail and crossing over the many streams with my dog. A big downfall was hearing all the gunshots when I was on my way back. There must have been some target practice on the private land adjacent to the trail. This was very unnerving!

This was great trail many option on where to go. I took this hike towards the end of winter (Feb 3rd) all the leave on the trees had fallen and trails where covered in them but it was still very easy to maneuver, very well labeled trails. The trail had lots of inclines and lots of rock on the trail very scenic. This is a state park but there are no fees which is a plus. Over all amazing, lots to do i.e hiking, rock climbing, kids parks and more. Go check it out if you’re close by.

Lovely, well marked trail. not hard at all, hugs the river mist of the time. Highly recommended. To get to trail, you must cross a creek by car twice. If your car cannot do this [low car], you have to park at first parking lot and walk 1/4 mile to the trail head.

I did the trail a few days before new year’s day. I really enjoyed the trail and the views. The summit was very busy because you can drive to the top, but the trail was much quieter. I did the trail anti-clockwise and the trail up to the top was closed but it has been re-routed and you hardly notice. However you can follow the trail down as per how AllTrails shows it.

This is a great family friendly trail. We hiked this trail with our two children ages 12 and 5. It was a little challenging for our 5 year old just for the distance but she made it through just fine. Definitely would recommend for anyone with children or pets.
