The trails were a bit to follow, they are poorly marked but the park is almost impossible to get lost in. I jumped around from trail to trail and around the gorgeous lake, to try and make the trip longer. The hike isn’t very long but if you walk everything it’s worth the trip. The only issue is all of the stupid dog owners. My dog and I went on a Saturday and no one had their dogs on leash, which meant dogs sprinting up and barking at my dog for almost the entire trip. Crowded on the weekends.

Nice bridge, well marked trails friendly people and dogs

3 different levels here and even a pump track. Level 1 tight and easy. Level 2 tight and fast and fun with slight elevation changes but super fun bc of how narrow some spots. Level 3... you can get served. Built on old landfill and some steep inclines (for beach town) and gnarly roots. Have always had fun there

Wonderful hike with beautiful weather. Be wary of the trail markers though, it's very easy to get off trail.

Great walk with lovely views. My pup enjoyed it as well!

Went to ride July 2, 2017 and was closed. Recommend checking out website below to verify if open or not. Unsure why it was closed (repair, washouts, etc). Will try again later.

For trail condition / openings:

Went this morning, nice, shady trail. Saw a huge water moccasin in a tree stump in the pond. Great walk!

So much to see!

Great trail for a quick hike.

Beautiful trail! I was amazed

A pretty nice trail!! It was busy, with lots of people and their dogs but still a good little walk around.

very nice for my first hike.

A nice stroll type trail. Simple, easy walking. Lots of people on the Sunday that I went. Most had larger sized dogs running free, but behaving themselves. Not very long or strenuous, but definitely the kind of trail most people can walk.

This is a great trail for walking, hiking or running. There is plenty of free parking and it is just off of Highway 17 N.
It is fee free and was dedicated by a great family at the request of their beautiful Daughter. She wanted to share and preserve nature for all to enjoy. We just wanted to say thank you to a wonderful and selfless family. We love Abbey Nature Preserve. Especially the beautiful bridge over the lake and all the benches along the way. We also love the swing, stone wheels and bird houses.

We went to this location looking for a trail and didn't find anything but a residential area filled with homes. (See satellite map view)
There weren't any sidewalks so unless you want to walk on the neighborhood roads I wouldn't recommend it. We didn't see any Blue Clay signs or identifiers for this location. We drove around and back tracked just in case we missed something. If anyone else can confirm this location please update with details.

The best trail in and around Wilmington. It might be short but if you have a good dog, they can run and interact with other dogs and not be near roads. Mosquitoes aren't usually too bad. And the pond is nice to enjoy on both sides.

Lots of roots. Just loved it, however don't go on weekends because of the crowds.

Great place for the pups to walk on or off leash, and passed many other walkers and runners. Nice and easy.

nice trail

If you're looking to get away from it all and immerse yourself in the wild, this is not your place. However, it is great for dog walking, trail running, or just getting out of the house on a nice afternoon. Trails are easy and suitable for all skill levels. The scenery is great, especially in the fall. It takes you through several different varieties of forest environment. It can get a little busy on nice days, but overall a good place for some enjoyable hiking

Beautiful trails, very well taken care of! It's nice to see all the different areas, and everyone who was walking around was friendly and mindful of their dogs. Dogs are allowed off leash but it didn't seem to be a problem! Definitely going back!

Pretty cool. Worth the time.

Nice trail system with many skill level options. it is actually closer to 8 miles of trails on both sides of the road and range anywhere from easy to difficult.

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Nice little looping trail with wide pathways and a long bridge over a scenic pond. Decent amount of foot traffic but nothing crazy, and our pup loved meeting all the other dogs on the trail.

Very easy trails and lots of sniffing and running for pup!

I had the same issue mentioned by others. Unleashed dogs. It protects the dog as well. Just silly to impose on others with a jumping-wet pit bull, and rude. Otherwise, it was beautiful and will enjoy coming back and exploring with my bf.

Nice nature walk, wouldn't call it a hike however. Lots of runners and people with dogs, but everyone was friendly. A few places you could go off the trail a bit which made it more adventurous, but overall its just a well maintained access road on which you follow marked trails. The nice thing is that if you want to get a long walk in, the loops can be doubled or tripled and it's easy to do 5 or even 10 miles back in there.

My girlfriend and I spent nearly two hours on the trails. It was a great walk and not crowded at all since it was late in the day. The trails get dark before the sun sets so an earlier start would have been better. It rained some but we didn't get too wet. It was an all around great time.
