Beautiful well-maintained trail that goes through several changes in scenery. There are some great views near the top which provide great photo opportunities. I did this trail several years ago and it was just as good the second time around.

Very easy trail. More of a smooth gravel road and a lovely walk through the woods. Depending on what you are up to for the day, this is a great little mini walk just to get out in nature and rejuvenate before your day. Didn't even break a sweat. Great for kids and people who aren't hardcore hikers. :) Almost mostly full shade in the summer which is great in the summer.

Easy trail for anyone. Perfect for families, easy access for special needs, flat course for runners and nice to see the horses. Lots of shade and seating areas. Lots of nice spots for taking pictures.

Beautiful, wide gravel path that slowly turns up to Flat Top Mountain with great views all along the way. Exactly as advertised - easy and suitable for any time of year. It’s connected to a number of other paths in the area that I hope to come back to soon!

Great hike. 4 out of 5 is high praise. I’ve hiked the entire AT and only a few places along that 2190+/- miles are worthy of 5. Good footpath up to a carriage trail. Then a very nice footpath through an amazing butterfly haven. If you stop at the first clearing you’ll miss out on the butterflies. One review said that it was overgrown and not well maintained, that was NOT my experience.

Aunt Cindy and I hiked to the top of Flat Top Mountain Trail as our first AllTrails hike in North Carolina. #UMMazing trail - easy and well maintained. Please see my YouTube video - Search for "Uncl3Mik3Mik3 AllTrails"

Beautiful relaxing hike with nice smooth roads which make it easy to enjoy the lovely scenery.

This trail was amazing. It had the perfect balance of meadow and mountain scenery. The lookout tower at the top was a great final destination. This hike has a European feel which was very enchanting.

Good mix of open fields with big views and deep woods with shade. Near the top there are some overlooks, and an observation tower at the top where you can get 360 degree views. There are some shortcuts where you can cut across the switchbacks if you want to shorten it a little bit (we did that on the way down). When you start from the parking lot, don't make the mistake we did and try to cross the road - better to go down the steps near the bathroom and take the tunnel under the road.

Perfect, easy going hike. Butterflies everywhere, really pretty.

Great trail, beautiful views. did het dome cardio in near top!!

Easy - loose granite carriage road, but a good climb

Great trail, saw lots of flowers and horses. Great view from the top of the tower.

Great trail for seniors. Easy hike over will maintained trail. Nice views along the way.

A very solid trail. We started at the bottom and walked to the mansion and back. It was pretty easy. My wife carried our 17lb infant and she handled it with ease. Very pretty along the way.

Awesome day. Beautiful views and natural cooling on a hot day! Agree with others the trail is easy to moderate as it has choices that are not as steep of difficult. Strongly recommend!

Wide gravel trail, just fine with a running stroller (we pushed my 5 month-old on it), dogs, family friendly. Lots of shade, perfect for a warmer day.

Beautiful, easy hike up to the observation tower, which offers a 360° Blue Ridge view. Loved the downhill run with some slight inclines to add a little challenge for this beginning runner. Will be coming back again and again!

Loved this hike! Great variety of views (meadows, mountains, trees, wildflowers, etc.). Wide trail with gravel and very few rocks/roots sticking out to trip you up. The switchbacks made the elevation gain quite manageable. The firetower at the top has incredible views and is quite unique for a trail! This is the perfect vacation hike as a family or with kids.

Great trail for beginner runners like me! Easy hike up to the Apple Barn with just enough incline to feel like a workout, and then run from the Maze back down to Bass Lake. My favorite place to run!

Nice easy trail with great long distance views

Nice wide gravel path the whole way up. A shame though to see the well worn paths through the forest cutting the switchbacks. These shortcuts only allow erosion to the area. I know this goes against what most are saying in these reviews but folks should stay on the established path and not cut the switchbacks.

A nice leisurely trail with great views. Perfect for kids and less experienced hikers. I believe it took us about 2 hours round trip. The slightly steeper areas are nicely shaded. We will definitely be back!

Great winding trail up to the top where the observation tower is. From the observation tower you will have an almost 360 degree view of surrounding mountains. Great views along the way up as well.
