Great nature walk, saw a bear on the way to the trail . Was sad a few of the trails were closed .

Couple of the boardwalks were closed. Trail isnt always marked but trail is worn out enough so its easy to follow.

To get to this trail a short hike down Goose Creek Trail is required from a parking area in the primitive camping section. After hiking to the trail head for Flatty Creek, it was destroyed and impassable.

My video of the trail: https://youtu.be/fKHZQZ9haBM. Goose Creek Trail was easy to get through. Lots of scenery. Flatty trail has damaged and you can see that on my video that I did yesterday. Here's the video of just Goose Creek to the beach. https://youtu.be/fKHZQZ9haBM. Bug spray a must. biting flies and chiggars!

My video of the damaged walkway: https://youtu.be/RR0z2rsDGIs. The boardwalk is damaged, but I got over it and went to the end of the trail. Was a nice view from the end of the trail. Park at the far back parking lot near the primitive camping. Park officials told me that a bear and her cubs were spotted in primitive camping which is very near this trail. Just make yourself known and keep your eyes open while hiking. 4 stars for the fun of trying to get through the damage! The other end of the trail goes to a closed beach. Nice to sit alone at the beach and enjoy the view! the rest of the hike was good.

This is a trail I want to like, but just can't bring myself to give a positive review. I'm giving it two stars because the views and the atmosphere were actually very nice, and it is a very pretty place to visit in Eastern NC. However, that's the only positive thing I can say about this trail. I began hiking the bridge but quickly found out that it was completely broken about 3/4ths of the way through. There was no signage or notice indicating this before I began, so I had to turn back. I attempted to pick the loop back on up the Ivey Gut trail by driving around the boardwalk and parking in the lot nearest that trail. Upon getting no more than 1 mile in, I started to notice more issues. The second bridge I encountered was also broken, and precariously crossed it hoping the next one would be open. As I continued on the trail I realized I was being attacked by fireants, as I stepped on a hill without even realizing it since the trail was so covered and un-maintained. There were fallen branches and twigs all over the place, and I was constantly having to move around them or over them. I can't say I'll be returning here, at least not until they start maintaining their trails. I understand this area is prone to hurricanes, which might explain why the bridges were out, but they could have had one employee walk the trails and clear out all the fallen branches etc, seeing as the last hurricane was 2 months ago. They clearly put all their money into camping cabins that appeared to be brand new, so they are probably trying to focus on bringing in more revenue instead of focusing on the trails. Side note: bring bug spray, this place is essentially a swamp/lowland so there are plenty of mosquitos and noseeums to go around.

Great trail other than the palmetto boardwalk being out. Easy trail for a longer distance hike or trail run with several view points of the Pamlico.
