Good trip up and back. Fairly steep but so worth it

We went here 9/3/17 and it was a beautiful day. The hike up was a sweatmaker and breathtaker. It will remind you to go hiking more often because the views along the way and at the end are totally worth it! You can see downtown Asheville, Hemphill Bald, Maggie Valley, Cataloochee Ski Resort, and Mt. Sterling on one side and then Jackson County area, Soco Valley, Cherokee, and the Harrah's casino on the other.

Definitely worth it- don't stop and turn around. There's also a hike to Mt Lyn Lowry blazed with yellow spray paint if you know where to look.

This is a DIFFICULT trail for the average person! You think a 1/2 mile trail is easy but gaining 450 feet in a half mile was brutal! There are a lot of dogs on the trail and unfortunately people are not always picking up after them which was the cause of some unpleasant smells (it was not human waste as one reviewer stated). I would have expected from a "knob" to have a 360 degree view or close to it but unfortunately that was not the case. Needs a little more maintenance.

NOTE: this is an update in response to Theresa Bird's review that said there wasn't any human feces on the trail. Clearly, this person has little or no hiking/camping experience. Dogs don't wipe with leaves or napkins and deposit them on the trail. Also, anyone with a sense of smell knows the difference. This is simply a fact, and if you hike it you'll experience it.

This trail is heavily trafficked in summertime (especially on weekends) and the site suffers because of it. Great views from the visitors center at the base of the trail and the top...that is if you can ignore the human feces along the trail. I counted 8 piles of crap on or just off the path to the summit - I noticed numerous stable flies in several more places but had no desire to investigate further.

Then there was the cigarette butts I saw at the summit and the people smoking during their hike. Disgusting.

I was with my wife so I tried a popular little hike along BLP and I'll never do it again. If you're a true nature lover then avoid this area along with other popular places along the Trail.

The overlook on the knob is small and crowded in the Summer. Honestly the parking lot has a more panoramic view, much better for photography. The parkway is closed all winter. It's best to go in the fall to see the leaves and mountain ash berries.

Great little trail with stunning views! Worth the beautiful scenic drive along the blue ridge parkway! It is all uphill but short so it's bearable!

Great hike with beautiful views

Views are amazing! While the trail is shorter; it is uphill on the whole way out, so it is still a challenge. Will be going back.

Loved it! The drive up is pretty incredible. There is a nice visitor's center with clean and adequate bathrooms. The hike up is definitely a steep climb but there are So many breathtaking views and opportunities to take a breather (which you will need!) Once you Finally make it to the top it is Exquisite! The trail itself is well maintained, more rocky at the top but managable and so worth it.
