Do not take inexperienced hikers. I went with an inexperienced hiker and from the Craggy Visitors center to falls and then back to the visitor center took 6.5 hours. It’s a fun trail, rough terrain, twisted my ankle multiple times. At a certain point on the trail one of the many falls intersecting the trail consumes the trail. At this section I would advise to take your socks and shoes off and cross. This section seemed dangerous, there used to be a metal wire rope but it broke, and is hanging in the falls. This is the excitement the trail brings. Something to think about too is the view of the sunset from the craggy visitor center is spectacular. So plan the hike perfectly that you can see the falls and the sunset. But make sure to give yourself extra time if you want to do both. The hike is not easy.

Nice hike with options to make this 2-4 miles, with a shorter 1 mile route to the beautiful waterfall. Has a bench to sit and enjoy the view and take a rest. My husband and I did the loop, making this 3 miles total. The first .3-5 miles back were strenuous uphill for a moderate hiker but otherwise an enjoyable route. Be advised the drive is very windy for those with motion sickness.

Great hike, worth the constant uphill for an amazing view.

Classic out-and-back to world famous view. Persistently steep and occasionally rocky with lots of stone steps, this is one of the harder hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can ride the tram up and hike back down if going both directions is too much provided the tram is in service. I waited 15 years to hike this trail, and it was worth it.

it was a beautiful morning. honeysuckle just popped, and kinda overcast and cool. trail was perfectly kept. there are ups and downs and a few water spots. I went with my brother. we've lived here for years and never knew it was in our backyard. basically a beautiful day hike, bike, nature walk, nature photo shoot, possibly camping. i reccomend to any locals to check ot out.

Great short hike! Very strenuous for the first of the season. Got the blood pumping!

Done this trail 2 times now and it’s just as good as the first time. View is amazing, bring a snack to hangout at the top. Muddy when it has rained a decent amount. Lots of rock steps made near the summit. Kids of all ages seen walking the trail. Also very dog accessible. My dog loves this hike and to chill on the boulders at the top .

Great hike to some amazing views!

First time going on this trail. A friend of mine told me about it. Great hike for the kids.

Hiked this on Mother’s Day with my daughter. Great hike and lots of people on the trail. Did come across the biggest rattlesnake I have ever seen crossing the path on the way up. We gave him a wide breadth before continuing up, but he still rattled at us. Lots of flies and bees once we reached the top. But overall a wonderful experience!

My husband and I completed this hike on a warm, sunny day in the middle of May. We hiked it as a loop with Slacks Trail beginning with the White Rock Falls trail first. It took us a total of 2 hrs 15 mins to complete the loop with several breaks along the way. We are beginner hikers, and found the White Rock Falls Trail to be relatively easy leading to the falls, but then quite strenuous as the trail switchbacks up the mountain leading to the road. However, there were many opportunities to stop and cool off in the stream. The overlook at Priest Mountain was nice, also. Slacks Trail was fairly unremarkable with the exception of some beautiful blooming rhododendron along the way. We were glad to have a leisurely walk back to the car, though. To get to the entrance to Slacks Trail, you have to walk about 50 yds along the road to the Slacks Overlook car pull off and the trail is to the right near a picnic table. Overall, this is one of my favorite hikes on the Parkway.

Perfect for Mother’s Day hike with lots of wildflowers. Up hill for the first half. Enough water to collect on the way as long as you have a water purification mechanism. Some nice spots for picnicking. Not a lot of views but some. Lots of gorgeous rock.

Wonderful single track. fun, flowing, technical, and challenging in spots. Lots of surprises and features to keep you engaged. while not an expert, I can imagine this is the type of trail to develop expert level skills.

Beautiful trail that is fairly evenly graded throughout the trail. Beautiful waterfall. Trail seems to be capable of washing out as there are some areas that have a small stream running through.

As several people have said, this is a great trail for wildflowers. I know nothing about what kinds of flowers other than they were beautiful in the morning sun.

This is an easy/moderate trail: easy almost all of the way, although the back side of the loop from the Blue Ridge Parkway back up to the Rattlesnake Lodge ruins would be moderate. Not hard, but a pretty decent uphill.

The informational sign about Rattlesnake Lodge was very informative.

The only downside to this trail is lack of parking at the trailhead. There is only room for 3-4 cars. If you can’t find a spot, drive another quarter-mile up the hill and there is another small parking area with a trailhead there. You can park there and make the short hike back to the real trailhead. That is what we had to do.

This trail has a beautiful waterfall at the end. With that being said... it's not for the novice or barely fit. The amount of steps that are involved in the hike was insane for me. I will definitely go back when I'm in better shape. ;-)

This trail is my favorite mainly because of the short distance to rocks and water! My daughter and I enjoy climbing on the rocks and exploring the creek life. Well worth the trip!

Absolutely beautiful. Get there early to beat a crowd. I was able to sit at the base of the falls and enjoy lunch before I saw another person.

One of the most gratifying and satisfying hikes I have ever taken! Challenging to say the least, not for the weak!

Simply can not describe in words adequately. Must see in person to understand.

This hike is moderate at best, not hard. The trail is all down hill to the falls. There is a small set of falls before the actual falls, don’t mistake those as your destination. The falls were full as we have had a decent amount of rain the last couple of days. There is a nice deck at the base for viewing the falls but if you climb the rocks to the right of the deck you can easily climb to the top of the falls, just be careful as it is very slick. The hike back up is slightly steep and constant, but the short distance makes it easily accomplished with not much effort

Super easy trail to an extremely expansive view. Multiple places to enjoy the view, more chipmunks than I could count. Pretty wildflowers. Loved it

Short hike, but the view was incredible, well worth the 15 minute effort up it.

Amazing trail, favorite place to hike any time of year. Always meet nice people at the top and along the way as well.

Beautiful hike for a nice, clear day.

Not recommend if it’s wet, snow or ice. Quite a few people have fallen to their deaths here. Be smart.

Great little hike, perfect for young children.

Great trail!

We did come across two black bears on our way back so be aware of proper safety precautions! Definitely an adventure!

Tough but fun and worth the view at the end.
