This trail was definitely challenging. So much so that we took an Uber back to our car once we got to the summit. Beautiful views once we got to the top. Took us about 4 hours to get to the summit. Pretty muddy in spots but for the most part straight up climbing and some rock climbing.

Good but tough

Amazing hike - but challenging. Up and down in 7 hours with breaks (walked the road back - which is still tough as it is 7.9 miles with constant, steep decline). Very muddy sections on the climb up - did it in trainers but if you have walking boots - wear them! Bring a jacket!! Great hike all round!

Great views. Hike is easy. A seniors trail.

It was a little rocky in some parts and some gentle hills. But overall a very relaxing walk with a spectacular view at the top.

Nice place to dip your feet in the water or dive right in! Get nice and sweaty boulder hopping then jump in. The short trail can be steep and slippery after rain so you may want to wear more than flip flops.

Overall it was a fine hike. The first section is quite steep. I found it to be a fun challenge on the ascent but unpleasant on the descent. The views from Whiteface are a great reward. Esther, however, is only worthwhile if you are looking to add a High Peak to your resume. The bugs were annoying but manageable. There were a lot of muddy spots but with proper hiking boots they were minimally bothersome.

Do not underestimate this hike because we sure did. It’s definitely a nice hike to the top of whiteface but you’re scrambling uphill through rocks pretty much the whole time. There were lots of mosquitoes and black flies in the last third of the climb. Took us about 3:30 hours to make it to the top. We initially contemplated calling a taxi to take us back to the bottom of the hill but we decided to tough it out and made it back down in 2hrs. My legs are extremely sore today but I’m really happy we did it !

Trail was rocky, extremely muddy and the bugs were terrible. Good bug spray a must. We hiked with two large dogs who were being bitten by flies. Not heavily traveled, only saw two other people.

This was an amazing hike! It is basically a trail with mild hills (very easy). You end up with an amazing view from the top! It took about a half hour to the top. The views are beautiful and surprising for the easiness of this hike.

We did this last weekend starting up the trail from Marble hill (pretty sure that’s what it was called). The first bit of the hike feels never ending because of how steep it is, but when you get to the split between Esther and Whiteface, it feels like a normal ADK high peak hike. We did Esther first because the reviews on this app said that there wasn’t a view. It was fine tho, we took our celebratory picture of our feet around the marker and what not. The trail to Esther is muddy. Be warned. It’s not like you can’t deal with it, but just know that my waterproof Columbia boots were a good choice for footwear. When we headed to Whiteface, things were fine until you hit the road area. The trail (not the road—we aren’t cheaters here y’all) became a bit grueling, but doable. I guess we were just a bit tired by that point. When we got to what seemed like the top, the hike got easier to complete—knowing we were close. The top was lovely, someone was getting married at the top that weekend. The clouds did disperse as we spent time on the top of Whiteface eating lunch. We ate in the observatory building to avoid ruining someone’s wedding with our stinky shoes (haha! But for real). We also hiked down to the area that had a bathroom to wash up and to get ready for our descent. Don’t wait for the elevator, trust me. We didn’t, it’s clear the elevators are there for the people who drove up and cannot walk down the path to the other building. The wait for the elevator is too long, and plus since you came up that far, no use in taking the easy route.

A great moderate hike with a dog on a leash. Perfect weather, a little buggy, loved the lean to at the top for snacks, cooling our feet in the beautiful pond, and the path was relatively clear. I don't recommend this hike during or after rain - almost guaranteed to turn an ankle due to all the river rock on the path.

This is one of the few high peaks that leads you 'towards' civilization instead of 'away' from it. Overall it wasn't a bad hike, like most said, the trail to Esther is pretty muddy and it also has no view. I think there was a beehive near Esther's marker too. Solid 4/5.

Nice hike with nice views at the top! A little muddy in parts, and the trail wasn't always very well marked, but the view at the top was worth it! Was also nice seeing the waterfall in the beginning of the hike. It was very private - we didn't see anyone the entire hike except for two other couples at top, but after they left we had the whole summit to ourselves! It took us about an hour going up and back down was a lot quicker (maybe around 35 minutes). Definitely recommend! Plenty of parking at the trailhead.
