Nice trail. Gradual incline. Couple slippery spots up and down. Summit has nice views with some scrambling over the Chimney Rocks. Steep so be careful with kids on the top. Nice views of peaks to the North, snow covered that day

Really enjoyed the hike. Trail head provides beautiful views of pond - hike as described with amazing features at top. Chimney rocks are very unique and provides excellent views. The actual top leads off past the designated camping area and easy to miss - thinking the chimney was the peak. The short traverse to top lead to even more incredible views.

Did the loop trail clockwise to Clear Pond then John Pond. Absolutely spectacular trails. Well marked, well drained and well kept. We did a side trip to Center Pond on a freshly cut/marked trail about half way up the Clear Pond trail. That was a good destination as well. The yellow marked loop trail is about 5 miles long and can be done in a few hours, plus exploring the lakes, Lean-to at John Pond is very nice. Old graveyard from 1897 is interesting as well.

The first part if this hike is a gentle walk in the woods. The trail is clearing marked and was easy to follow, the only trouble I had was when it was time to cross the creek. The last half mile is a fun, steep scrabble up to the summit. Views from the summit are worth the climb.

Most people stop at the chimneys; but if you hike a bit further to the actual peak, there is an amazing 360° view of the central Adirondacks. My wife and I have been hiking the Whites in NH for years, and this view (especially in autumn) blows them out of the water. The majority of the trail is pretty easy going, but the last 0.5 miles is pretty steep and rugged. Not a deal breaker, but if you are a couch potato, you will be sucking some wind. Exploring the nooks and crannies around the chimneys is super fun. You also can explore Eagle Cave (seasonal) as well. If you are in the Indian Lake area, this is a must do.

Such a great hike in the fall. Wouldn’t have seen the ‘real’ summit had we not followed the AllTrails map to the end. Lots to explore. Great with the kids.

Beautiful Fall hike. I loved the ponds along the way. There were Loons on Thirteenth Lake when I was hiking this trail. Very scenic and enjoyable.

Pretty quick hike for a good view. I enjoyed it. Lot of incline. Trial had lots of shade I though.

Great trail.

Beautiful hike along lake and stream most of way. Elevation at end, with moderate climb no scramble. Great views! This time of year stream is trickle (compared to wet spring) and fall foliage is just at its start.

As others said, this trail is difficult toward the summit, but it is so scenic for most of the way. The view from the summit is great, but the scenery along the way is also fantastic! Took us quite a long time each way, but it was worth it!

Hiked this last fall. Wish we'd camped- so many great spots by the lakes. Really gentle hike until the last summit push, which gets a little gnarly- you definitely need to use your hands. The summit has a few nice wide areas to hang out with a view, so it didn't feel crowded at all.

Overall a great hike! Nice easy trail for most of the hike. You can see the summit as you approach the pond and we could see and hear people up top. The last bit to the summit was definitely steep but short and well worth it. There are multiple ledges around the summit with amazing views. You can see many of the High Peaks in the distance to the north and what we believe were some peaks in the Green Mountains to the east. Lots of tent sites around 13th Lake and one by Peaked Mtn Pond. We took our time, taking lots of pics and enjoying the perfect hiking weather. Highly recommend!

one of my favorites hike

Despite that steep ascent towards the end, this is one one my favorite hikes of all time! The rocks at end were a lot of fun to climb. I'm far from great shape and I managed this relatively well!

Beautiful short hike but extremely crowded! The ascent is steep but short and well worth it for the view from the top. We made a whole afternoon of it - exploring the chimney section, eating some lunch and the nearby campsite and hiking to the summit. We brought our dog and it was a great trail for her until we got to the chimney section - a lot of cliff faces made us uneasy with the pup.

Hiked with Dan. Starts off nice and moderate, trail gets steep after Peaked Mountain Pond, but nothing out of the ordinary. Lots of water crossings along route. Views from the top are pretty spectacular. Around the lake was very crowded, only saw a couple other people along the trail to the summit, had the summit to ourselves.

Amazing view at the top, very rocky and gets steep at the top! My group enjoyed this hike very much.

Great views at the end. There is a $5 fee to park.

I camped on the top so my hike was a bit more difficult, but that aside I think the difficulty rating is accurate. Definitely bring hiking poles!

Such a great little hike. Fun terrain and phenomenal views for the distance. The last stretch is steep and tiresome which is nice given the short length of the hike. Makes you feel like you earned it. Made it up in 35 minutes and down in 20. Would do it again for sure.

Beautiful but very hot day! Trail somewhat busy A must!

Easy hike. Eagle cave is easy to miss. Do your homework before you attempt to go into the cave.

Very nice trail with a great view up top. when you get to the top there is a split that isn't marked well. The straight/Left path leads to a set of rocks and caves. The right split leads to a campsite and the top of the mountain.

This is a great hike! Not too strenuous, but no walk in the park. If you want a spectacular view, take the side trail that goes off to the right just before you reach the chimney rocks at the top. It is unmarked, but not too difficult to follow. It goes down past a campsite and up over a ridge. It appears to be going no where, but you will end up at a 360 view of the surrounding mountains and you will be so glad you took the side trip!!

This one will get your heart pumping. Great views from the top, the Chimney is great. You have to pay a small fee to park.

A relatively easy trail. Easy walk for the first half mile. Then a hill climb up to the chimney formation. Lots of herd paths to confuse the unwary. Follow the trail markers! Great western views of the lower ADK mountains. The trail markers end at that formation but trails continue everywhere. Follow the "camping" sign for the herd path to Chimney Mountain. Nice views looking north. ADK high peaks in the distance. Clear view of Allen, Marcy and the Great Range. Peaked Mountain is right next store. So close it looks wackable.

Trail is in very nice condition, muddy in spots but not too bad. Starts off along beautiful 13th Lake, it eventually turns to the right and follows a roaring creek with lots of waterfalls. When you are almost to the top of the creek (you can see the marsh above) be on the lookout to see where the trail crosses the creek. Took me awhile to realize it is crossing, not super well marked. The summit was somewhat anticlimactic - maybe because it was facing southwest? Be warned - black flies were out in force. I was so glad I had my head net. I'll definitely be back to camp on the gorgeous lake. I only saw one other hiker, and a few kayaks.
