Road bikingNo shade

I rode from Fort Erie to Port Colborne, mostly along the Friendships Trail. Then north along the Welland Canal. The Friendship Trail is a former rail line. It is straight, flat, and well maintained, but boring as heck. It parallels the Lake Erie shoreline but you wouldn’t know it, since it’s anywhere up to 2km from the shoreline. A side trip to the lakeside is a must, but can send you to dead ends (a road might simply end) requiring long u-turns. The Welland Canal route is pretty at certain spots. Huge ships and birds pass by. Park lands are particularly beautiful. But off ramps are rare and some paths end, leaving you stranded, in need of a u-turn or scrambling up hillsides. Both routes desperately need bike repair and refuelling (restaurant / water) stops. They are very few and far between. Very little shade too. Not for the feint of heart.

Very beautiful and well maintained crushed stone trail. As others have mentioned, the most beautiful part is the sections near the lilly pad pond. Also, one small section near the entrance is currently closed but it’s only 0.1 miles of the plotted trail. It is definitely an enjoyable trail for users of all ages and mobility levels.

Beautiful when the lily pads are in bloom! Also in the fall with all the leaves changing color around the ponds.

Pretty well maintained. The Conservation trail is closed, but the rest is open. Wide, mostly gravel pathways that are well marked. Bugs were not too bad, even in the shade. The Lily Pond Loop has some absolutely stunning views.

Trails are very well kept, wide, and easy to follow. Good balance between sun and shade throughout. Bugs weren’t too bad. Had a few persistent ones follow me and continuously smack into my head, but no bites. A nice escape from the modern world surrounding it.

One of many scenic trails throughout the Preserve. Was there two weeks ago and the lily pads were in full bloom in the large pond/lake

Lovely setting, with lots of water features, and photo opportunities. Some wildlife as well. Easy to navigate trails. A good place for a relaxing walk in nature.

Very cute trails and photo ops! Lots of stuff was closed off because of covid but we had a great time regardless!!! Light traffic as well and lots of different trails to follow. No dogs allowed because ticks seem to be an issue there

An easy going stroll in the park. Minimal mud and elevation. Many of the boardwalks and buildings are closed due to COVID-19. Great for kids I’d imagine

Took our three young boys for a walk in the woods today. It was our first time here, and only a quarter of the parking lot was full (Great for social distancing!) Our boys loved doing 2 miles of walking and checking out the creatures; A swarm of baby snakes, woodpeckers, chipmunks, and geese. The inclines were minimal and the ground even- excellent for young and older patrons. very little mud on the pathway. We’ll be back over and over again.

We always hike these trails; today we saw the most wildlife in one visit. 2 deer, either a muskrat or coypu (not sure which one), a bunny, an egret, and other regular small birds including blue jays, robins, and warblers.

I would recommend this trail to families with small children as it has an easy terrain with lots of ability to loop around and cut hikes shorts if necessary. Area is very shady and has plenty of bird sightings. It did not seem buggy in the spring but there are signs for tick activity.

So beautiful. So much nature. I love this trail. It’s full of man made lakes that are spilling with natural wildlife.

Nice, well marked and maintained trails. A little wet, but it rained for most of the morning. I saw a few deer, they were curious, not really scared.
