Some of the trail isn’t well marked and had to use the map on this App at times. Walked along the road at one point to follow the map/app, but otherwise there were no visible markings on any trees etc. Definitely seems longer than advertised. Pretty dry with good scenery on part of the hike, woodsy once you cross over, but still beautiful.

3-Star Review in comparison to other trails in Letchworth State Park. Completely hard-wooded trail. 30 to 45 degree incline at beginning of trail, left turn, and gradual descent. Multiple creeks/brooks. Variety of wildflowers. Secluded back field - excellent to spot deer or vermin. Left turn again for further descent to Park Road. Last third of the hike is walking Park Road. Suggest crossing the road for more shoulder to walk along. Beautiful ravine and stone bridge along Park Road. Trail places you on the remote side of the park. No one in visible sight but footprints suggested heavy traffic. ATV's use the trail too but none in sight.

#9 was a beautiful trail...steep..water running down the trail, muddy but passable; can walk on the stones in areas where the water runs. When you get to the end of #9 at cabins, we went down the road to the right and joined #10, but went straight (through the barricade) instead of following the gravel road/path to the right or left. It led to the river. Very beautiful. A good descent/climb.

This is on the less developed side of the park. It offers a very remote and quiet hike under a deciduous tree canopy. Chipmunks are plentiful as well as babbling brooks. There are pleasant ascents and descents and the opportunity to walk close to the edge of a magnificent cliff.

Amazing trail. Start early, even on a weekday, as previous reviewers said, it gets busier as the day progresses.

We only did a portion of the trail, along the waterfalls. You can get close, and you can get wet! We had fun.

WARNING- actually about a 6 mile hike. NOT 4.9 miles. Gorgeous view of the park. The only downside was that it was extremely busy and about a quarter of the whole hike is along a road.

Only part that was a little muddy was the beginning. Most of the hike was through the woods with some on a dirt road. Able to go down by the river but there was about 8 ft drop and water was moving too fast. Great views of the river from up top after you get off the dirt road. Some steep parts to get back up to the top after going down to the river. Haven’t been on a bad hike at Letchworth yet.

Muddy at start

Great for views. Easy to navigate. Downside is that you parallel a park road the entire way. River on opposite side of trail keeps you ensconsed. Easy terrain. Good for youngsters... just keep a close eye as the escarpment is treacherous and alluring. Pink blaze well marked. Lots of picnic areas.

This is a section hike of a portion of the Finger Lakes Trail opposite the gorge of Letchworth State Park. It was a great day for hiking 40-50 degrees and wall to wall sunshine. There was a good bit of mud but that’s to be expected this time of year.

Absolutely gorgeous hike

Loved this section of the park. Trail was more secluded with views of the gorge constantly.

The falls are beautiful, so worth the trip out to the park for the view, but the "trail" really isn't much of a trail. Long stretches are actually just a walk along the road. For the parts that are just barely off the road it's a walk between picnic areas and playgrounds-- so really just a walk through a very managed public park rather than a hiking trail. Go for the beautiful views, but skip the "hiking."

Beautiful walk. Parking is at middle falls

We hiked only a portion of the trail so our recording was much shorter than the actual trail is. We were able to see 2 waterfalls, a beautiful bridge and wonderful waterfall. I recommend boots and spikes around this time of year do to some areas being Iced out.

We saw all 3 falls and it was beautiful! I was really impressed by this park and awed that I hadn't heard of it before. It was a fairly easy hike in my opinion. There is a steeper part to one of the falls that may be hard for some so be aware, but you can easily skip it if desired.

wow this park is amazing

great view. beginning of trail along the road. went early to avoid the crowds.

If you are parking at the Portagevill entrance be prepared for a bit of a challenge to get around a trail reroute. Best to take a picture of the written directions posted at the entrance on NY 435. Signage is minimal and sometimes confusing. Once into the park at the Parade Ground site you still have to guess where the trail is. Going further downhill will get you to the place where the trail crosses the road but there is no signage until you get to Letchworth Trail 7 which the FLT follows in part. The current map published on this site is incorrect.
