Panoramic views of Southern Lake George

5 miles total round trip. Lots of shade for sunny, hot days. A couple brook crossings; great for your dog to grab a drink or cool off with a swim. Beautiful summit with great views.

Loved this trail! On the way back down if you take the left to Bumps pond you get a nice view of the water and then continue to make a full circle back down to Dacy’s landing. A bit rocky, but we made the entire hike that was about 6 miles or so!

Nice trail ... halfway up starts to get steep.. last 1/2 mike gets really steep . Views make it worth it...actually 3.3 each way

Hiked on 5/11/18 and trail is awesome. Road is open now and you can drive all the way back to Dacy Clearing which makes this hike so much shorter, 1.8 miles one way to be exact. Muddy in some spots but overall a great hike.

Worth the steep hike. Two incredible views!! Great first hike with Bae

Beautiful trail. Great views from the top!

this is the second time I have hike Black Mountain. It is a fairly easy ascent and a nice tranquil Loop. this weekend the trails were muddy and wet with patches of snow and ice crampons were a must. the wind at the top was howling in bitter cold. eventually spring will pop up and join the party.

Nice trail some scrambling at the top. Still a good bit of ice and snow near the top. As another reviewer wrote, several stream crossings. A good bit of mud too. Views from the peak were stunning. Tongue, Gore and whiteface were visible.

Very easy hike. Crosses several streams so make sure you have waterproof boots. Great view of Lake George, the Tongue Range, and the Highpeaks. Small taste of what the Adirondaks have to offer!

Best view for a non High peak , clear view of the Lake don't start untill the top but it's worth effort. early spring bring spike or snowshoes on your back because they are needed half way up due to ice on the trail.

Great hike! There were a few steep parts which really made me work but overall very doable and even more rewarding!

solid hike did it mid march without snow shoes .... *dont do* but the hike was worth it great views from the summit if your trying to get a good photo go behind the fire tower

dog and i hiked this with a friend and it was very beautiful and nice and short. very icy! made a mistake in not wearing spikes but We survived. falls were beautiful

Definately a great hike! Challenging and rewarding all the same! High Peaks here we come!

I've done Sleeping Beauty multiple times but never in the winter. Went this weekend (2/18) and it was great. Snow on the trail was packed down enough to navigate, definitely needed microspikes and I was also glad I had my poles with me as well.

Great Hike. Extremely icy during the winter months, microspikes are an absolute requirement

Very nice, beautiful view! I would do it again! Didn't thought it was hard, perhaps moderate.

First hike by myself- screwed up and somehow went to fishbrook Pond- was amazing!!! Will definitely do this again. Hopefully be able to see all the ponds- this area has quite a bit to do as far as trails, hiked views, camping, etc. pretty sweet

great for hiking with a dog

I thought this trail was absolutely perfect for a beginner like me whose never been hiking before. The weather also cooperated the entire day for mid-October. If you want to read more of my Sleeping Beauty experience check out my blog post! :) http://www.ashleyinaugust.com/2017/12/sleeping-beauty-my-first-hiking.html

The first half of the mountain is easy going and makes for a good warm-up for the rest of the climb. The second half is moderate. If you’re hiking in winter, bring poles. The trail is basically a frozen over stream so footing can get slippery. The summit view is outstanding. Good bang for your buck

Great hike weather was cool and sunny red trail up was a running stream. Views were excellent
Made the 7 mile loop was a great moderate trail
Everybody should do this trail at least once

great trail and the view at the summit is amazing.

Nice hike. Icy in spots and wet in some others. Views are nice... no access to the fire tower.

Hiked this during mid June 2015 and it was a great view of Lake George. Was very muddy as it had rained several days before - was like walking up a creek the entire time. Took about 4 hours with lunch at the top.

The trail to the top of Black Mountain is heavily used and well-marked. The views from the top are awesome, The loop down to the ponds is wet in places but the ponds are nice. Carry a map and you won’t get confused by the side trails and intersections on trails that lead to other ponds.

Finally was able to complete this hike ! 2 weeks ago the sleet and rain took us out!

The last .8 was pretty icy but didn’t need spikes although we had them just in case !

Not a bigger hike

Plenty of things to see

The drive down to pick up the trail wasn’t packed

The wind was really heavy at the top , cover your face !

Warm clothes is a must ! It was 33 out and the top was around 25!

Over all great hike and would do it again !
