Gorgeous day - great hike. Up the trail with the red markers, looped back down by Black Pond and Lapland’s Pond. Saw a big snapping turtle just off the trail! Little mud but not too bad at all.

I really love this hike. I would rate it as moderate, beautiful views and trail is pretty gradual save for the few steep scrambles closer to the top

It was a nice climb to the summit was, a little disappointed with the limited view, but the over all view was great.

Nice and easy hike with a spectacular view of Lake George. One of my favorites!

Nice hike to the summit. Very dog friendly. Nice view. Fire tower closed.

Definitely an easy hike but make sure once you get to the peak to take the narrow foot path down about 100 feet or so to get a better view of the lake.

A nice hike, very well marked trails. I did the loop, starting with the red markers to go up to the top. It was the first time I saw a wind turbine on a summit! Descending the red trail from the summit is pretty steep for ~1/2 mile. The loop around the ponds (blue and yellow markers) is very easy and pleasant walking.

Great area, we drove all the way out to the end of the road. From there it's a 10 minute walk down to the waters edge. beautiful area. Brings you down to the shore right by "Hen and Chickens Island".

quick and ez

The perfect day hike with family and friends. Million dollar views. It’s the best bank for your buck in the Lake George Region.

Beautiful family hike…a couple of streams along the way. Great hike with some good aerobic inclines - hope to do it again this summer. Chose Buck to spread some of our Dad's ashes overlooking one of his favorite places on Earth - Lake George.

Beautiful trail. Great views from the top!

this is the second time I have hike Black Mountain. It is a fairly easy ascent and a nice tranquil Loop. this weekend the trails were muddy and wet with patches of snow and ice crampons were a must. the wind at the top was howling in bitter cold. eventually spring will pop up and join the party.

Best view for a non High peak , clear view of the Lake don't start untill the top but it's worth effort. early spring bring spike or snowshoes on your back because they are needed half way up due to ice on the trail.

Great hike! There were a few steep parts which really made me work but overall very doable and even more rewarding!

solid hike did it mid march without snow shoes .... *dont do* but the hike was worth it great views from the summit if your trying to get a good photo go behind the fire tower

Definately a great hike! Challenging and rewarding all the same! High Peaks here we come!

Great Hike. Extremely icy during the winter months, microspikes are an absolute requirement

Very nice, beautiful view! I would do it again! Didn't thought it was hard, perhaps moderate.

great for hiking with a dog

The first half of the mountain is easy going and makes for a good warm-up for the rest of the climb. The second half is moderate. If you’re hiking in winter, bring poles. The trail is basically a frozen over stream so footing can get slippery. The summit view is outstanding. Good bang for your buck

Great hike weather was cool and sunny red trail up was a running stream. Views were excellent
Made the 7 mile loop was a great moderate trail
Everybody should do this trail at least once

great trail and the view at the summit is amazing.

Nice hike. Icy in spots and wet in some others. Views are nice... no access to the fire tower.

Hiked this during mid June 2015 and it was a great view of Lake George. Was very muddy as it had rained several days before - was like walking up a creek the entire time. Took about 4 hours with lunch at the top.

The trail to the top of Black Mountain is heavily used and well-marked. The views from the top are awesome, The loop down to the ponds is wet in places but the ponds are nice. Carry a map and you won’t get confused by the side trails and intersections on trails that lead to other ponds.
