Great hike! Old trail up. New trail down. 3:10 round trip not counting time at the top/tower. Top 1/3 of old trail is a little technical at times but fun. Water most all of the way up old trail which insured some great greenery.

We had the trail almost all to ourselves, being the day after Labor Day. The route up was steadily inclined mostly, some dirt path, but a lot of sections were rocky, rutty, and rooty so be aware of your footing & footwear. The scramble to the ascent at the top was challenging at times, & even being that day after a rain there was abundant water, so be aware if you do this in the rain. The view from the fire tower was awesome & well worth the effort. At the ascent the only real vista is to the east but it was great nonetheless for a picnic lunch.

We took the newer trail up and down. We did take some of the old trail up where it crossed with the new trail but it really is just a stream bed, very wet and rocky. The new trail is very pleasant to walk on. Great views from the top of Lyon Mountain!

Hiked the new trail yesterday. This was probably my 20+ ascent of Lyon. My first was in 1962. I like the new trail for its gentle approach to the top steeper part. It goes through some beautiful forest, starting in mixed hardwoods and transitioning into alpine evergreens. The trail is well maintained and water and erosion management have clearly been considered. The top includes the fire tower now restored. It offers the only 360 degree view as the summit once cleared is growing over quickly. Love this hike. On a clear rare day, Montreal is visible.

Me and Charlie (1 year old pupper) first fire tower hike! I would rate this on the milder side of moderate (I would also rate myself on the milderside of NOT super in shape, haha) We took switchback trail up and the old trail down. Trail is almost entirely in moderate shade without vista points until the top. You will not get a 360 degree view unless you climb to the top of the firetower. Charlie wanted nothing to do with the firetower, but I am both scared of heights and also a adrenaline junky so I solo'd it! Totally worth it! There were very heavy rains here just yesterday but we found the trail to be fairly dry, well maintained! We met very friendly family's, dogs, and even a strapping 85 year old gentleman :) 10/10 would recommend

Beautiful & well kept trail! It is flat in the beginning then gets windy and Rocky as you get into the last .75-.5 miles. We saw a lot of people with dogs. Parking was a little dicey due to the number of tourists in the area. Bugs were generally pretty good and all of it was worth the view from the top. It was a workout for sure but beautiful and relaxing.

Completed this on 7/28/2019. Was a really nice hike. Well groomed trail and easy to follow with trail markers. Definitely worth doing. Amazing views at the top.

Awesome trail, 1:48 to get to the top, great hike!

I hiked this trail on 7/23/19, 69 degrees and blue skies. This trail is well marked and heavily traveled. In fact, I counted 22 people and six dogs. This 7.1 mile hike was pleasant and were all the other hikers.

New trail up distance one way 3.4 miles in one way is a moderate switchback hike with 2 small bridge spanning a small mountain steam. Would consider it a very doable family hike. Fairly gentle slope up til about half mile from summit than it becomes somewhat rocky and a little steeper but still very doable. The summit does not offer 360 view you'll have to climb the tower for that and you should as the view is wonderful .

Really enjoyed this trail - I don’t think it should be rated as hard. As most mountains go, gets hardest towards the top but generally moderate. Beautiful view from the Firetower. Took me 2 hours up and 1 and half down.

Went up by the new path and went down by the old one. I found the new path too easy and long, although very simple to follow and well maintained. Suitable for the whole family. The old one is steeper and covered in small rocks (like an old riverbed) that makes it easy to slip or twist an ankle. You have to be really careful where you put your feet. Doing it again, I would probably go up the old path for a more challenging hike and go down by the new one so it'd be easier on the legs and knees. The combination of both paths is about 8.5 km. The view from the summit and the fire tower, though, is worth the effort. We saw a lot of frogs during the whole hike.

Went up the old route and down the new path. Both are easy to follow, although only the new path is marked. Fun mountain, nothing difficult. No blowdown. Just a little mud. But a lot of mosquitoes in 1st half.
