I would have given in 5 stars, but I found that the trail markers while on the beach were nonexistent, and so I ended up on a private road leading to someone's home, and had to backtrack. Walking the beach was strenuous, and so a 5.3 mile hike turned into more of a 6.5 mile hike. Don't get me wrong, all in all it was a decent hike and the views of the LI Sound were beautiful. It was very peaceful being I was the only one on the trail. Definitely would like to come back in the summer so I can take a swim when I get hot.

Trail is nice and wide. There are nice views of the bay from the bluffs. The beach walk feels long as there’s not much to see. The lighthouse is interesting but there is no info about it there. Then you have to walk through the park on a road until you reach your car. Meh. It’s good to get your steps in if you have time to kill.

Lovely hiking trail. Well maintained yet secluded 5.3 mile loop. Be sure to have your dog on a leash especially when you reach mile 1.0; the bluffs come up abruptly and your dog (and eager trail runner) can easily go over the edge en route to a 50 foot plunge to the beach. Sunny and very cool, so ticks weren't an issue. But lots of deer tracks along the trail are a good indicator that it is an issue in warmer seasons. Definitely going back for another go.

Part woods, part sand. Easy hike with lots of white tail deer. Peaceful this time of year.

very pretty on a beautiful day. 70 degrees 10/30. Not challenging but rewarding on the end. The signage is not good and some of the hike is on asphalt roads.

Well marked and maintained trail while in the forest. Once you get to the beach you have multiple out/back options to get to the lighthouse. Our hike was about 5.5 miles but walking a good portion on the sand made it a bit more strenuous than the total distance would imply.

PS - definitely do a tick check post hike as everyone in our group found at least one during our inspections.

love it; woods, bluffs, beaches and an old lighthouse

did some off roading. good fun.

The paths are clearly marked and well maintained. The part of the path that goes through the woods has an elevation that allows for a great view of the Long Island sound. Great trail for dogs. In season, bathrooms and water. Great sunset views.

A great fat tire bike ride to lighthouse you can also go a bit more east along the water (trail in woods or riding beach) than the map indicates.
