Great hike with beautiful waterfall. We did both trails. The one across the street to the river. Both were good. The one leading to the river was flat and muddy. Great for kids.

Great hike for beginners, and wanting to teach the little ones the basics of backpacking and hiking.

Very nice easy hike with a beautiful waterfall

Quick hike longer in winter with snow covered. Hard to get to falls with lots of snow but still nice and peaceful walk with the dog

Easy trail, went during winter with snow covered trail, takes about 30 minutes to falls without stopping at a slow pace. Was empty, quiet and peaceful :)

easy trail to follow. dogs loved going in the water. it wasn't too muddy when we went. seemed very well maintained. not much climbing, but pretty enjoyable.

avoid after lots of rain. way too many mosquitoes and muddy.

We took the red loop and walk to a little stream. This hills are a little steep and the paths have some limbs fallen over and brush overhang. I went with a 12 year old and he handled it well. I definitely would like to go back to hike a longer trail.

Very nice area; quite heavily traveled and well packed; I would recommend for all ages.

easy trail, great swimming hole. Easy trail for my dog.

Amazing view of Hannacroix falls. Trails were great, little muddy but expected with rain. Everything was clearly marked.

very nice and special trail...!

Excellent hidden little gem! Overall very easy hike, trails could use some maintenance, and preserve is full of invasive species, but honestly the variety of wildlife here is excellent! Went on a rainy day and observed a mating pair of wood ducks and a baltimore oriole within five minutes of the hike. Observed shorebirds, a flock of great blue heron, and an immature bald eagle. The creek side of things was nice. Got a nice historical touch and the falls were great. Keep your ears open for migratory birds. While pondering what the old paper mill might have looked like, i spotted a scarlet tanager in a tree nearby. Made my day.

Hannacroix Creek Preserve is not on Castleton Island. It is north of New Baltimore off Route 144. There is a nice little parking lot. From this lot there is one Trail down to the river and another trail heading west where the waterfall is, the highlight of the trail, best seen after spring thaw or rainfall.

Good location- quiet, but some of the trails are unkempt featuring dense foliage and a high chance of ticks, thorns or poison ivy6. Waterfalls are really nice.

This was a great easy hike. The water falls are very cool and provide a nice deep swimming pool. My dog loved it too Bring bug spray and water shoes.

After a lame trip to Howe caverns, we crashed at the holiday inn express in Coxsackie. Great hotel by the way. Decided to check out this hike with my 2 boys. Trail markings were very clear. The falls were just awesome. Boys and I jumped into the pool under the falls and had a blast. Great little discovery.

Took a fun hike today that included our Bassett hound. The trails were manageable, though could be better marked. Be sure to have the actual trails map with you otherwise you could end up going all the way to the opposite trail end. Their were several dipping in the creek by the falls. Good trail for a family hike.

It wasn't a "lightly trafficked" trail as mentioned above. The falls were cool from afar, but up close dirty from party after party. Easy trail.

A great family hike - one of our favorites! You can swim at the bottom of the falls, a bit more pleasant for the kids if they have water shoes.
