Definitely steep in the beginning, but worth the NYC view at the top! We skipped the loop and just went to the look out point and back.

Uphill all the way

I’ve played hockey up here my entire life and never hiked the trail. Great day for it. Wasn’t that crowded and well worth it. Pics overlooking the bridge and valley were perfect on a clear sunny day

I went on a gorgeous sunny day and it was quite congested, both parking lots and the trails. I’d highly recommend getting their early on weekends. It was so packed cars were parking on the side of the road, which there were endless “No Parking” signs and those who did were issued tickets. There are two lots; one closer to the merry go round and another quarter of the mile up near the inn. The app says it was a moderate hike, however, if not experienced, it would be challenging. Very steep and slick slabs of rock must be climbed. The views are spectacular and well worth the exhaustion.

Great trail. Get there before 9am on nice weekends to avoid crowds

If you want to get more exercise, go clockwise. You'll be climbing and climbing.. We went counter clockwise and it was pretty easy for me. Towards the end, when we were coming down, we even ran. Also, it's the weekend, you'll meet A LOT of people on the way. The parking is limited too. We were waiting in line to park our car for at least 20 min. Overall, it was a great hike and few definitely amazing views.

Great trail! We went counter clockwise and the ascent was tough! Straight up over rocks. Some beautiful scenery inside the mountain and a few great overlooks.

great work out on the way up and slightly dangerous way down.

This is not an easy trail! It was rocky with steep inclines the whole way up! I was not expecting how difficult it would be because it was labeled a “moderate” trail. But overall the trail was beautiful and shaded nicely with several beautiful views. Make sure to have the map on your phone with GPS . Several times we veered off the trail onto another trail and after checking our phone we had to circle back.

I love doing this hike backwards! Views are great! Went on a Saturday, pretty crowded get there early. Def follow the map, a lot of trails cut in and out.

I must say there are wonderful views. Downside is we went up the stairs first and there were so many people during this pandemic social distancing is required. Going down was a blast.

Parking for the trailhead was closed, so we parked near Bear Mountain Inn (the main parking was full by the time we got there at around 10:45am on a Saturday, but they directed us to park in a field a litter further). We took a trail that led from above the Inn to Seven Lakes Drive, then walked along the closed road to the trailhead. We didn't see anyone for the first third of the hike, which was a welcome change from trying to social distance in NYC. Nice views along the trail, with some rock scrambling in sections. Had a nice moment when my boyfriend realized he had hiked this trail as a NJ boy scout. Had a thrilling moment when I came within a foot of stepping on a large rattlesnake at the beginning of Doodletown. Overall, a nice (mostly) moderate hike around 8 miles.

Really liked this trail. Easy to follow, great view stopping points throughout. Nice uphills to get the blood flowing and break a sweat. I would say that the duration of this hike is much longer than suggested by AllTrails though. It took us a couple hours just to get about half way. We went to the right section of the loop to start. Don’t be confused by the trail sign at the parking lot. The entrance to the trail is on the side of the road, do not enter what looks like the trail next to the sign. The trail entrance is 200 feet walk on the side of the road, not from the trail that starts at the sign. I was confused and entered the trail at the sign and could not find the trail and then I doubled back and walked on the side of the road to find the true trail entrance.

First time on this trail and it was after some rain so decided to take the route clockwise since I wasn't sure how scrambling up would be with the wet rocks. Parking lot is huge so easily had space on a Friday. Way up was with stairs and was a great leg workout. Way down was a bit more challenging but enjoyed it. Views at the summit are worth it. Next time will take the route counter-clockwise to go up the scramble.

Well marked. Not too crowded. But saw two big snakes!!

Went semi-early (830am) and no one was on the trail. Definitely was buggy so bring spray. Beginning going counter-clockwise was the hardest part but after that it wasn’t bad. Best view was at the Timp.
