Went April 6th. Saw no one on the trail. Muddy and some snow left on the back side of the hill (fork to the right). Rocky trail, that just goes up. Not much coverage from the sun. The overlook at the top is really nice with views of Questa.

short quick to the river.

Hiked this on April 7th, 2019. This was a solid trail length for a brief day hike, and offered great views in almost every direction at/around the peak (though the trail itself is a bit average, hence the 4 stars). The trail itself begins with a low grade, but gradually gets steeper and rockier. The last remnants of snow are hanging on, so there are a few patches on the path that need to be crossed, but not enough to be a deterrent if you don't mind. Areas around the snow can get pretty muddy, but the rocky nature of the trail allows for traction despite this. Near the top the trail forks leading to the Saddle or Wild Rivers Overlook. If you have time, I recommend hiking both paths, as they offer very different views. The Overlook is the longer leg of the two, and gives a view out over the mesa towards the Rio Grande. The Saddle can be reached very quickly and looks out over Questa. There is plenty of shade at the top and rocks to sit on if you want to rest.

Went on March 9th. Snow and mud abounded as expected. We were ready for it. Beautiful vistas of the snow covered mountains. Really enjoyable. Walking sticks came in quite handy in the mud!

Very muddy at first 1/3 of trail - snow melt. Snow is deep towards the second half of the hike. Kept falling through the snow (12-18 inches). Made it difficult to continue. Turned around. Recommend snowshoes this time of year.

Sweet out and back with great views! Lovely little hike in the snow.

First 1.1 miles no shade whatsoever and slight uphill. After that a bit more shAde trail is quite rocky for most of it be sure to wear hiking boots. In parts quite steep . at the overlook you can see very far nice view. We did not encounter a single person on this trail in either direction if you want to avoid crowds

By noon, direct sunlight got pretty hot with not much shade. My mom in her 60's got a bit winded, but great trail!

Nice trail for those of us still getting accustomed to the altitude but wanted to get some distance under our belts. Beautiful views at the top overlooks in all directions. We were the only ones on the trail.

Nice walk on a very pleasant afternoon. The first 3/4 mile is flat and in the open, so not that interesting. We ate lunch at the lower observation point, then hiked to the ridge top to enjoy the view at the upper observation point. Very nice view and a bench to rest on. We took the return loop to hook up with the original trail back to the TH, but somehow got off the trail. A bit of freestyling, but no real problem.
