Always a favorite of mine! Beautiful views of the turquoise lake! Nice hike for day 1 when I'm aclimating to the altitude difference.

Nice, exposed in areas so if it’s hot and sunny it can get warm on high side of road. You could run this trail easily. We saw a big elk.

Did this for Father's Day with my family of four; ages 3yrs (used a backpack to carry most of the hike) 5yrs, 29yrs and 32yrs. Really enjoyed the hike and hope to do more around this area

Nice trail. Mostly good footing, very well marked and has some nice views of the lake and Sierra Blanca. It’s a good run and fun! I would not call this an “easy” run, but it’s definitely enjoyable. More like moderate.

Very well marked and maintained. Good running trail. Lots of other choices if you want to go longer or climb higher. Pretty views, access to bathroom in summer months.

My family and I have made multiple trips, but today was the first time we actually completed the route, thanks to remnants of a tropical cyclone moderating the temperature and giving us some much needed rain. Starting from Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, it's not so bad up to Frenchie's Line Cabin, but then it gets very steep and very narrow. There are wash outs on the narrow trail, and could be potentially dangerous, and looking around, particularly up, could become hazardous while walking. Once we got to about 4 miles, the trail is much less picturesque for the duration. We did have a wonderful time, but having finally conquered Dog Canyon, I wonder about doing it as often as we have in the past.

We hiked this trail in June with temps in low 80s. It is indeed a mostly moderate trail but there are some very steep climbs and some of the terrain going down is steep and very rocky and slippery that are a bit challenging. Take a hiking stick for stability. We would not recommend taking your dog without some little dog booties due to the parts of rocky terrain. most of the hike is shaded and beautiful. We saw an elk and wild turkey. when you reach the top of the mountain, make sure you take the correct turn to go back. glad we had this app to help us ensure we were on the correct trail as we did make a wrong turn and had to double back. overall worth the hike.

My granddaughter Natalia (10) and I hiked the whole loop under the shade of tall pine trees with a beautiful landscape in all directions. This is definitely one of the best trails near Cloudcroft and it was very easy to follow the path with the blue signs.

Went on a sunday, easy hike, pretty views. Saw a lot of families.

Take sun screen if going in the summer and water.

Nice little trail, not too bad. Was looking for more of a outdoor experience away from civilization. But either way it was alright

Nice trail easy to follow only down side was that several people did not clean up their dogs poop which was right I the middle of the trail.

Trail is in good condition and well marked. There are lots of views down into side canyons and several old lumber roads that make nice side treks. Just don't get lost! We saw lots of Elk and Mule Deer.
We also hiked down Dark Canyon itself, which runs west to east, lying north of the marked trail loop. It is marked on the All Trails map as Dark Canyon Road, which in reality does not exist and only parts of it remain to be seen. The canyon is very pretty with may extremely large trees. There was an unusual amount of animal skeletons to see, along with a stock tank and spring at about 2.5 miles from the top of the canyon.
Benson Ridge Road, which leads to the Dark Canyon trail head is rough in places, but can be driven by all but the lowest suspension of cars, as long as it is driven slowly.

Not too bad of a trail. Doesn’t look like it is hiked very much and isn’t kept up. It will however kick your ass. I hike a few times a month and I couldn’t walk right for 2 days after tackling this beast.

ALOT of down trees! Bring water!

Hiked only the falls portion (2.5mi roundtrip) around 7pm on May 19th. Nice scenery and the falls area is pretty with alot of trees. Our hike was mostly shaded also since the sun was behind the hills and mountains. You are looking for the Salado Canyon trailhead if you want a short hike to the falls. It is this trailhead that the map above shows.

If you hike the full Grandview trail or the longer route to the falls, you definitely want sunblock and water. We tried hiking from the Bridal Veil Falls trailhead sign last year and didn't make it. Our dogs were not conditioned for trail hiking on the gravel and it was high 80's that day.

Great trail, the elevation at almost 9000’ did slow us down a bit. But we did well being 60 and 64 years young!

backpacking

A good trail with a few camping options along the way if you're a backpacker looking for some backcountry camping. We saw several other hikers and everyone was friendly and shared the trail well.

It was a nice day out in the middle of no where. i think if it was later in the season there would be more green which would make it even a better hike.

Nice quiet trail..great mildly gradual incline surrounded by trees and a few wildflowers. Parking area by road watch closely for signs. Dusty and very dry but nice breeze...would recommend for a nice workout without the crowds...

Easy to moderate, depending on the weather. Impossible to miss. Not very frequented. Took me (woman, 210lbs) 2:45 hours including two ten minutes breaks.

Me and my little one who is 4 years old did this trail today and it is perfect. Easy trail with easy clear signs to follow. Definitely going to do this one a few more times.

I expected it to be more difficult.

Our ‘go to’ trail. Very nice shaded trail walk for out dogs and it’s a nice loop.

Easy trail, marked well enough. Gorgeous views. This trail would be moderate if you were out of shape as it starts at 5600ft and goes up from there.

The trail is a good stretch of the legs. Not too much for wildlife but did see a few deer, osprey and a lizard. The trail is lined with piles of down timber, hundreds if not thousands of piles.
