On a whim, went on a portion of this hike on the way out of Santa Fe and was glad we did. The landscape is scrub brushy and there’s not a ton of remarkable plant life. However, I enjoyed the views of Santa Fe housing from above. A good antidote to all the shopping and overstimulation of Santa Fe.

Something I really enjoyed was the regular trail signage. Lots of options to shortcut home should you be running low on water or energy.

The weather was perfect too but the elevation and shade helps to keep us cool. In the East trail we came across a difficult section with lot of switch backs that tested our endurance. The views are average but worth it. There are also a few good looking camp ground spots we could see if we wanted to stay overnight.....

We hiked the loop as shown but extended at the top as well as across the road at the bottom to add about 4+ additional miles. Shade was intermittent as we started at 11am and the sun was straight overhead. Bring lots of water. There is one overlook that had a great view of the mountains along with a sign board to identify the peaks. Would do again if in the area.

Great trail, however a little too rocky for my liking. (mountain biking)

This trail was an nice easy hike for the morning- very well marked and good shade. We got here a little after 7 and there were about 4 cars in the lot, left about 9 and lot was nearly full. Nice views and variety of plants. May 27 2018

We did this hike Memorial Day weekend 2018. Start at ski basin and follow Windsor trail 254 signs, next to the bathroom outhouse . At the 1st fork, take a right and stay along the fence line to make it to Ravens Ridge, Deception Point, and Lake Peak. This is a steady gradual climb over 3miles at high elevation. Plan for 1mile an hour hiking . There are many social trails from Ravens Ridge To Deception Peak - you can take any of them.

When you get to deception peak, there is a high and low ascent to Lake Peak. Recommend the lower ascent — a lot safer without having to do the Knife’s edge on the high ascent. Both the high and low ascents meet up at top of the Lake Peak. There is great cell phone service at the top! It is windy and exposed at the top, so bring wind breakers. Hiking poles are helpful.

The trail from Lake Peak to Penitente Peak switchbacks down the backside of Lake Peak to the green treeless Penitente Peak. Once you get to Penitente Peak the trail is completely gone, so very very helpful to download the all trails map and use your GPS. Also be aware that you will need to hug the Penitente Peak Ridge line and backtrack a bit. Hikers have stacked stones to help mark the trail . Hiking experience very helpful here , as is a compass. Once you find it at the top of the ridge line, the trail is extremely well marked the rest of the way.

The rest of the hike is through a shaded forest with lots of switchbacks. You meet back up with the Windsor loop 254 at some point.

Our Apple pacer had this hike at 12.4 miles and it took us 7hrs (3 hrs for the 1st 3miles and then much faster the rest of the way).

Fun out and back hike. We took the high road from the TH and came back down the creek bed. The higher trail has a few sections where there is a steep drop off; just be aware and you'll be fine.

We walked the loop today in high wind conditions. Did not meet anyone and the weather was good. Easy trail. Not a lot to see but it was still enjoyable. Nice little 2+ mile loop.

Justhikedthis trail with my buddy from Dallas. I flew in from Austin yesterday. We hiked trails 29,30,31 and 32 for a total of 3.2 miles. It was a great day and the trail was well maintained.

Close to Santa Fe, easy to find, plenty of parking. Lots of options and distances with very nice views.

Beautiful views on the high side of the loop. Other side is essentially beneath it where there’s a creek bed.

Great workout and close to home. While listening to an audiobook I quickly scrambled up the hill but was more careful on my way down. Didn’t want to slip on rocks. How lucky we are to have the luxury of an evening hike before dinner.

We did both the east and west circle trail and the falls trail which is a short 0.5 mike trail off of the east circle trail. I felt that the west circle trail, which is the longer and harder of the two, was a lot of work for little reward as far as the views. While there were some cool views of several different mountain ranges and Santa Fe, they were almost all mostly obscured by trees and there were no opportunities to really get a good panoramic view despite how high the trail climbs. If you’re looking for a good workout, it was definitely a challenging hike on the west circle. The falls trail was partially frozen and I’d like to go back, but I would not hike the west circle trail again.

Enjoyed family time on this trail!

I took my in-laws (67 and 70) and they handled it nicely. Very well kept and awesome places for pictures.

Nice hike. Took the “more difficult” trail in and the “easy” path out. Would recommend this route the views from the easy path are great! Quick hike!

Awesome trail.

Good short trail out of town. I wore my 5-months old baby and I hiked with my over 70yo dad. Easy hike. It can be snowy at winter.

a nice hike. not too difficult. some inclines and nice view of ski santafe and Mount Baldy from the top.

Great way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Easy-to-follow and well-maintained network of trails. With clear markers and maps at junctions, you can customize your hike for whatever distance and duration you wish. The walking is pretty mild -- no major ascents or descents. An enjoyable and convenient Santa Fe hiking spot.

Steep climb with sharp drop offs. Not many overlooks, but beautiful trail through the trees. Just great to be in Santa Fe!

Great trail.

Hiked a portion of the Dale Ball trails. Nice rocky trail with good markings and many options to make it longer or shorter.

The hike starts at Borrow trail head. I would agree with others in moderate rating. You do go up and down a couple times. No view at 3.5mi. Pics probably from upper section (entire trail is over 9mi to Ski Santa Fe). Great stroll through the woods. Nice color on Aspens in the fall.

This was a great day for a hike and a great place! Didn't find it too easy, thanks to the different elevations. Great, smooth incline and just when I thought I couldn't go any further it would change to downhill or a flatter area. With the different trail options, you could also choose how far you wanted to go. Loved it!
