No people! Awesome! No rattlesnakes either but do wear pants/boots, bring plenty of water the first mile is the steepest and only challenging part really. Next time I’ll try The other trail

Moderate difficulty for seasoned hikers. Treacherous and hard for families with children on their backs. Nevertheless, gorgeous panoramic views leading to the cave.

The scenic driving loop to the trailhead is open. Trailhead is half a mile from end of the one way part.

This trail is lightly traveled, it gets busy pretty quick. I only hiked 6 miles in, then turned around. Trails gets narrow in areas. Not too tough, but could be a bit challenging to beginners. Not much shade, pack plenty of water, and be prepared for some wind.

As of 3-10-20 the access road is open. It is a very scenic drive. It closes 30 minutes after sunset.

I really liked this trail. There are some nice mountain and desert views. I didn't do the guided tour into the cave(need a reservation), but you can hike the trail to the cave entrance without a guide. It's a trail worth doing if you want something to do outside of the main Cavern. The trail is short but it is uphill the entire way. 500ft in roughly half a mile is fairly steep.

Parts are a tad overgrown, but outside of a couple sharper turns, it's fairly well marked. there were a handful of man made stacked rocks to mark occasional parts of the trail. all in all, very quite, not too hard, although proper footing is needed at points. Trail gets thin at times near some edges. Amazing views up top!

Reef Top Circle (Carlsbad caverns scenic gravel loop drive) access road is closed "for regrading". Couldn't get an opening date from the rangers at the desk. And couldn't see the closure ahead of time on their website, thank you NPS.

Not an easy hike. But a worthwhile one. Beautiful views all the way. It’s a narrow trail but well marked. Trekking poles help, lots of loose rock. No one else was on the trail and it looked as if it had been awhile since anyone was. We really enjoyed it.

Guide is not necessary to hike this trail but to see caves you need a a guide. Out & back hike is around 11 miles total if you go all the way to the GTR junction. Pretty steep after first two miles, rocky too. Moderate to difficult hike with beautiful views down into north and middle Slaughter Canyon. Highly recommended day hike but might be difficult to find a camping spot if you’re staying overnight. Little to no traffic.

Thus is a stop off the main road leading to the park. It offers a view of the Canyon. Pretty, unfortunately, the road goes through the canyon. There is a much nicer stop closer to the entrance with cliff dwellings .

spectacular hike not too far from Carlsbad. Made it to the top, watched the sunset, and headed down. Took me about an hour to get up and 30mins to get down

It took us about 4 hrs to get to the very top clearing area, stopping along the way and 2 hrs without stopping to go all the way back to parking area. Not easy by any means. There was no one else on the trail and it didn't look like anyone had been there in a while. The trail was clearly marked by rocks. Careful with loose rocks as there are many areas where you walk right on the ledge. Pants, boots and walking sticks suggested. The All Trails map was spot on and a great help. Beautiful scenery.

I went on this hike on Friday after cave tours in Carlsbad Caverns Natl Park. If you are going to spend the time taking the one way gravel scenic drive I suggest this hike. I did this and part of Rattlesnake Canyon, Rattlesnake is at stop 9/18 and then Juniper Ridge is stop 15/18 so it breaks it up for some nice hiking during the drive. You follow cairns the whole way and it's a good steady climb, pay attention to the cairns, cacti, and get some nice panorama pics from the top. I also happened to see 5 deer and was able to watch them gallop and hop for about 200 yards out on the ridge, quite a sight. HUGE winds as I got to the top of the ridge, bring an extra layer!

Slaughter Canyon Cave is a ranger-guided hike in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. It is a separate from the main cavern and is maintained in a more primitive state, without lighting or paved trails. Slots on the tour need to be reserved in advance through recreation.gov. It offers a quiet alternative to the sometimes crowded main cavern.

Carlsbad trails seem to be pretty much shut down due to the recent rains. The road to the trailhead was the toughest part of the hike. The desert is lush and green but this trail is quite overgrown. Shorts not recommended. But still worth the hike. Hopefully they will open up again soon.
