We went to look at the cone volcano, but the road was washed out so we took a walk around the trail. Not challenging, but well marked and had some decent views along with it.

We drove by Capulin and wanted to go up but it was already closed for the day so we decided to do this trail and enjoy the scenery as well as a distant monsoon thunderstorm. This is a nice easy hike that offers some great views to the vast openness nearby as well as Capulin itself. We sat on a rock and enjoyed watching a doe forage nearby. I do feel like parts of the trail are overgrown and need some clearing; I had a hard time seeing my feet because of the grassy overgrowth and was worried I might step on a snake. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Be prepared on weekends to wait at the visitor center until enough parking opens up at the top to send additional cars up. Park has a registration and number system so you can't just head up the road. Wait times can be 30 minutes or more, but the drive and the views from the top on a clear day are worth the wait.

Very short hike, I combined it with the rim hike. Overall very fun experience to get acclimated to altitude.

Was told at the visitor center that there was a black bear sighting the lava flow trail, so we avoided it and tried the Boca trail got about a third of the way and heard grunting and huffing and scratching coming from the thick brush! So we back tracked back the way we came!

Fun trail to the bottom of the vent. Did as part of the Crater Trail. Not as steep as it looks. Must do when there.

Beautiful views of 5 states from the crater rim. A herd of mule deer were on the crater while we were hiking. Short loop but steep incline.

Fee to access the park is now $20, but in my opinion this little place was totally worth it. Very accessible road up to the top of the crater, and a one of a kind hike that lets you walk the rim. A little icy and snowy in spots still, and very windy, but it's a once in a lifetime view of the Rockies to the west and the prairie to the east. How often do you get to say you hiked the rim of an extinct volcano, anyways?

This trail was incredibly muddy. We should have turned back early on but were too stubborn - ended up getting our boots soaked up to our ankles with mud. Definitely wouldn't recommend this after there's been snow since it melts into a marshy mess. Otherwise it was a nice, chill little trail, and not at all strenuous as the NPS brochure says (and I'm really out of shape). Lots of neat little lava related things to check out and flora. Saw at least one deer out and about.

Short and to the point! Just a quick walk down to the center of the volcano. Very cool to stand right where it exploded. Saw some lizards on the way down.

Incredible, breathtaking view! You can see Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas. Lots of things to learn with the signs posted around the trail. Definitely worth the fee, especially if you love history!

Wife wasn't a fan of the road up, but the view is great. It's a nice walk, some wildlife, and plenty of sky. The drive is about 10 up and 10 down, fee is 15, definitely worth the stop. Little shop in town was nice too.

Got there just after 8, the weather was nice and cool. Great views all over. Saw a deer.

Beautiful view, fairly easy walk, and several views of smaller craters such as Baby Capulin. Definitely recommend going with your family, and it isn't overly busy.

The trail is asphalt, so don't worry too much about footwear. Great views in every direction, weather permitting. It's apparently windy at the top all the time, too. Park entry fee is $15 per vehicle, so be prepared for that too.

Lovely loop to take in some views with a couple interesting informational boards. Wear decent shoes there are a few short steep inclines/declines

Took my Granddaughter last week and walked the rim. Loved how you can see for miles and miles. And the cool clean air.
