Very rocky, great view tho!

Fun ascent with one of the best vistas in the area. Great little section of the AT and pairs well with the boardwalk section that leads to it. Crowded and hard to get past the slower groups on the narrow cutbacks. Try to avoid peak times.

This was a great hike, it was short and somewhat steep, but there were a lot of cool things to look at along the way. Check out my full write up with pictures and things to look out for. eastcoasthiker.com/trails/stairwaynj/

Great trail, we started at the road and went to the top. An easy scramble across rocks and beautiful view.

Steep incline in the beginning, but pretty short hike so it didn't feel that bad. Did this hike in the summertime and saw two bears in the beginning of the hike which was pretty cool.

Could have been an excellent hike if it wasn’t for the fact that three days after rain the north end of the pond was not passable. Spent some time trying to get through finally gave up and turned around.

Great trail - it was our first time here and loved it. It’s moderate but personally, I enjoyed it and didn’t find it challenging. If you are looking for the view, make sure when you reach on the top and see stacks of stone look for the blue marks on the tree. If you follow white marks and end up at the mailbox you passed the view. Overall avoid after rain as it's a steep hill and filled with stone steps. Wet conditions will make is extra difficult. The view is a small area so don't expect to be a blown away but the view is indeed beautiful and well worth the hard work.

Beautiful view. It's a pretty steep incline that is well worth it. I advise that if it is wet or rained the day before use caution on your decent. The rocks become super slippery. If you feel like getting a little more distance in start a little further down the Appalachian Trail. It brings you down a boardwalk where you are greeted by some friendly cattle.

Way too many people. No views, such a steep climb up and no pay off view at the top. My least favorite hike in NJ so far. No wildlife or anything interesting to see but rocks.

Pinwheel Vista has become a party spot for local kids and trashy daytrippers of the Jersey Shore mindset. It is always crowded, but in the last couple of months, the amount of trash as well as graffiti painted on rocks and carved into trees has gotten out of hand. I hiked in from Warwick Turnpike and despite my reservations, continued over the top of Wawayanda Mountain to the overlook. As expected, it was packed. The problem was it was packed with people with no sense of trail stewardship or knowledge of leave no trace principles. In the 2 minutes I spent up there, there was a woman who threw a lit cigarette onto leaves (smouldered, but I stamped it out), three or four groups with Bluetooth speakers all playing different music, and an idiot carving his name into a tree. What a horror show. To top it off, I turned around to leave and someone was walking off with my trekking poles, which I recovered. If you are a hiker, stay away as it will break your heart. There are plenty of other views that involve a little more hiking but don't have the trash (discarded garbage and people).

Awesome hike for the fall. We went mid afternoon on a weekday and only saw a handful of fellow hikers. The view off the blue trail near the top is amazing.

Too many people. Take the AT to the mailbox, then take blue trail west ... all alone out there

The trail itself was moderately difficult, mostly rock path. The path zig zags up the mountain so it’s beautiful foliage. The only thing was, the path is marked with white paint so at times it was difficult to make out the path. The view was breath taking.

first time here its a continous climb going up but once u reach the top it’s beautiful. watch the boulder of rocks thats the junction if you’re just going to see the view follow the blue trail markings otherwise the white is a continue climb and hike.

Pretty nice, if busy trail. Cool rocks and beautiful trees. The viewpoint is initially obscured by trees, but there are good spots to check out if you take the time to look!

The lookout view is located to the left of the large rock pile. Great overlook of the entire area!

Great exercise, definitely not moderate though. Be prepared for a plenty of rocks on the way and steep climb. View on top is amazing, but a bit overcrowded. Plenty of ‘secret’ overlooks if you walk away from the trail

This trail is amazing. It has everything. A farm, flower meadow, cows, rock climbing, shade and an incredible view. The hardest part is the rock path up, but it is quick and worth it.

Begins with a Quick walkthrough a pretty meadow then you enter a wooded area and begin the hike up. Definitely break a sweat! White trail markers sometimes difficult to find on the rocks but most are on trees. It’s very rewarding. The trail is maintained with rocks placed as stairs in some parts, but it does not feel manicured. Wonderful way to spend time in nature. Incredible, panoramic view at the top. I was surprised by the amount of people on the trail, but I suppose this great trail has a reputation that precedes it. When you get to the large pile of rocks as you crest the cliff, Start following the blue markers to your left to get to the view.

This trail will give you a workout!! It goes up. Not just in sections; it's all up from bottom to top. The trail itself is very well marked (this was the white section of the Appalachian Trail), as you start climbing the rocks, trail markers are on the trees as well as the rocks/boulders, so pay attention to both. When you get to the top, by the big rock pile, the trail splits. White goes right, blue goes left. There's a sign on the tree that says "the view". Follow blue for a very short walk, and to the left climb up the rocks for the most spectacular view of the valley below!! It will be breezy and chilly, so bring a sweatshirt. Be careful on the down, as it is a bit steep in spots. This is a trail I will do again, and again! Stop by the Heaven Hill Market after your hike for some yummy treats.

Great workout! All incline rock scrambling. Nice views and peaceful at the summit.

All uphill to get there. Stay to the left at the pile of rocks: blue trail, to see the view. Gorgeous!

I saw black bears for the first time! Great hike.
