Be away that the large water fall is not on the main path!!! It’s a little overlook that is easily overlooked (pun intended). Other than that it’s a very flat easy and kind of boring hiking with a cute fairy path at the start or finish depending which way you go

I was wondering what all the kids and Karen’s were doing in a hiking trail till I figured out I crossed into the fairy Forrest. That part is pack with loud kids and their teachers/ soccer moms. I’ll have to come back to see the other side.hopefully it’s not that busy

WalkingGreat!

Beautiful trail. Total plethora of nature. Got to see gophers, fox, colorful birds, chipmunks, squirrels, deer. It is an absolute blessing. Take a minute to sit by the bridge and meditate if you can. A short drive for me from Staten Island and easy to access on the trail with clear markings.

Yellow trail is uphill from the jump, mostly rocky, overall with some flat walkways. Went about 2.20 miles and back, for a total of 4.43 miles.

It’s not an easy hike! And it’s longer than 5.8miles!

Hiking

South Mountain from Locust Grove Lot. Good trail...not really marked well

Not difficult but VERY rocky. Other reviews say it’s flat and paved in some areas but that is incorrect. There are some gravel paths but the majority of this trails have roots and large rocks. I would highly recommending hiking boots but good sneakers at a minimum.

Nature tripsOver grownRocky

I would not say this hike is easy or for beginners. The trails do not have the best signage and some parts of the trail is definitely overgrown/unmanaged. It is super rocky - hips are definitely feeling it now, but this is what made it fun and challenging! The waterfall is nice and gets super crowded. Absolutely recommend using this apps directions to get you to the right parking lot for the hike...otherwise you may add an extra 2.5 miles :)

3 stars, this was rated as moderate I suppose because the trails at some parts are more narrow or a bit rocky. To be honest it was relatively flat trail all throughout, good for dogs and there is a dog park in the area. Reverse direction might be more enjoyable since the Crest Drive has a paved road that people were skateboarding or roller blading down. I took 2 stars off because the trails were confusing and intertwined at many sections. About 3 times I passed different groups asking if they were going the right way or looking lost. Markings are not consistently in visible areas.

Started out on the Orange reservoir lake walking path located by Turtle Back Zoo and then followed Lenape yellow trail over the overpass to intersect with Hemlock Falls loop. The temperature was in the 80’s a bit humid but fortunately not any bugs. Since it was Labor Weekend I anticipated meeting a bunch of walking enthusiasts which proved to be true. The waterfall and overhang areas are a frequented visitor attraction. Most persons practiced social distancing and owners with dogs mostly abused by leash requirements. The falls is a fun sight but would be more impressive no doubt after a period of rainfall to fill the plunge pool. The walk is quite easy and very entertaining for families looking for a natural outing to share some natural views.

Hemlock fall location wasn’t clear , make sure to go a little up the stairs and turn left

Busy, easy trail. Went off trail to make it more interesting.

Perfect afternoon walk lots of different vegetation. The River was low because it’s been hot recently. Lots of people/kids/dogs in the fairy trail section but it lessens up as you go along. Definitely needs maintenance. Some downed trees along the way, made it hard for my dog. Also not very well marked most of the way, lots of people to ask for directions though if your phone/GPS dies lol

If you don’t follow the map it is very easy to get lost. But awesome trail!

Mountain biking

By any means this is not an easy mountain bike trail .... it’s goes up rocky trails with steep inclines .... it fun but you will definitely get a good workout ... plenty of down trees you have to lift your bike over and for sure you will have to walk your bike up some spots haven’t completed full trail but next weekend I’ll try a different route
