Hidden in the southwestern part of the state is Parvin State Park, a park whose history is as varied as its wildlife. Situated on the edge of the Pine Barrens, the park not only has pine forests typical to the area but also a swamp hardwood forest. Spring bursts out in bright colors and rich fragrances with blossoming dogwood, laurel, holly, magnolia, wild azalea and over 200 kinds of flowering plants. Thundergust Lake, Parvin Lake and Muddy Run are popular for fishing and boating. Swimming is allowed in Parvin Lake only. This park served as home for the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1933 to 1941, a summer camp for the children of displaced Japanese Americans in 1943, a POW camp for German prisoners in 1944 and temporary housing for the Kalmycks who fled their homelands in Eastern Europe in 1952.

Planned to take red trail but less than 1/3 in trail was closed due to walkway being out. Took white to bypass but ran into the same problem 20 mins in. We decided to call it’s day after that. Nice people on the trail.

Pretty trail and relatively flat but it rained hard enough yesterday which flooded many sections of the trail. Not recommended after a rain. Some I could bypass through the trees and thicket, some I couldn’t, and had to double back or get off the trail completely toward the paved road. Also, lost my way a couple times due to poor signage and markings. Gorgeous lake. I must have passed over 1,000 picnic tables. I’ve never seen such a healthy amount of picnic tables in my life.

A very nice trail. Colorful foliage. Easy hike.

Easy trail around the lake. Notes on here say no dogs but there are plenty of them there. We take ours but do keep them leashed. Look for eagles flying over the lake!

Parvins is a great little place for me to go and just relax. It’s about 10 min away from where I live. Awesome place to watch the sunset/sunrise. It is kid friendly and dog friendly. Also has a little park for kids.

Nice trail, option of going through a wooded area or on a paved road. Very nice and fun, easy for all levels.

Best everyday park for walking, running, and biking I know! It's dog and kid friendly, and clean.
Lovely array of trails to keep you going the distance with a good mix of pavement and dirt.
Excellent training grounds.

nice trail.

I really enjoyed it here! Clean, serene with lots of boardwalks and bridges and a few ruins. My track failed to upload but if you want to do the full track of 5.4 mi. then stick to the map, if you follow the Trail Markers it's easy to get yourself on the shorter 3.4 mi. track. I went on 4/10/17 and it was a good 80° day :-) so I figured it would be mobbed but I only encountered 8 others along the trail one of which was either an employee or volunteer trimming the trail. There are campsites so it likely gets busy during peak season. There are restrooms by the lake and I'm guessing a concession stand which wasn't open yet. A portion of the trail (if following the map) was closed due to storm damage. You may opt to heed the warning and can quickly get yourself onto a paved thru-way. As of this date it is not entirely impassable but since it rained heavily recently you'll be hard pressed to get through it without coming out with wet and muddy shoes and be prepared to balance yourself across or even throw down some downed branches to get through the water. Quite a few downed trees (ripped out at the root) and a few still in limbo so heads up! The trail is relatively wide (about 6' across) at most points but narrows significantly when you continue on the outer section of the loop. Very flat and smooth, if that's what you're into with only a small section with protruding roots so you never really have to watch your step, with the exception of the closed section which can keep you guessing what's around the bend and while I'm not completely certain--you're probably not "allowed" on that section anyway. It offers camping, a beach, a boat ramp and numerous trails that are clearly marked about 10' up on the trees and on posts at all crossings etc. Well maintained and good for all fitness levels.

Good local trail around a scenic lake

Monday, April 04, 2016

I've done this trail several times and every time has been really great. In winter, it has always been relatively un-crowded, but make sure you go when it is rather dry because the trail can get marshy.

It was nice. If anyone likes to have a long walk ;)

Nice day to take the pup out for a little walk. Even though the red trail was posted closed due to storm damage, we took it anyway. Very muddy, and bridges were out in the swamp. I thought it made the easy lazy walk threw the woods into something of a challenge. We were already a mile or so into the trails before I started the tracking. We covered a little over 5 miles before getting back to the lot, but I guess that's what happens when you let the dog pick the route. Great trip anyway.

I loved it there... Had nice morning runs in this beautiful place!

Coming into the wet season, the back trails are more like marsh. Beautiful bridge over wide stream. Peaceful. Just under 7 miles if you do the outside loop.

I put in about 5 miles with only 30 feet of rise. Majority of the trails are wide, and paved, some paved better then others. Not that much singletrack. It's an easy, pretty, ride if your in the area.

Parvins State Park trails are great! We primarily use the green trail which goes around the big lake. It is dog friendly. A nice three mile loop. Close to home too.
