HikingOff trail

Summer Day Hike: Complexity: Easy Terrain: Elevation gain is gradual. Well Paved trail. Make sure you watch your steps while walking up on that elevation Shadow: You will be under the trees 95% of the time. Trekking Pole: I did without one. As there is lots of hills which you will go up and down you might need one to support. Foot Wear: I did this hike right after a rainy day, so my solomons where perfect Scenic View: Trees, trees and trees. A beatiful stream and a wooden bridge Trail Markers: I think they recently changed the trail a bit. My GPS went bonkers with the GPX files i downloaded from all trails. Very Confusing if you are taking the loop. Watch out for patriots trail markers ( tree with a snake kinda symbol :) ) Parking: Its a big park. There is a lot of parking space. Around 50 Permit: N/A Animal Encounter: Did not see anything except squirrels Overall timing: I was able to complete this in 3 hours Streams : There is a beautiful stream running couple of miles in. Traffic: Moderately trafficed Campsites: I did not come across any campsites as this is super close to civilization. Pet: Need to be leashed. But i did not take the pup this time. Overall Experience: Dont get lost and do not follow the trail GPX. Just follow patriot's path trail markers, go up and come back in the same.

Decent but nothing special in my opinion. Lots of bugs. Not very challenging and not a lot to see.

A little too narrow in some parts for social distancing but otherwise a great trail and workout!

Easy, relatively flat trail. More like a nature walk with minimal incline. A bit overgrown in some spots. Very buggy, especially the first half.

We had some difficulty getting there, based on the directions. It kept saying we needed to go up a road that was closed, so we just parked at Lewis Morris Park & tried finding the trail from there. We wound up taking the Grand Loop, which was longer than what we planned to do. It was a decent trail with lots of wildlife. I the end, we used a different app to get back to the cars.

nice trail. not too rocky which is surprising for a NJ trail. some of the roads into the park are closed right now. best lot to park to access this trail is the Soldier Hut lot.

A little overgrown in places, but a relaxing walk, only passed three small groups today. Lots of wildlife seen, including deer, turkeys, chipmunks, toads/frogs, tadpoles... would return.

Great Hike! Well maintained and marked. Not real busy for a Sunday. Half of the hikers were wearing masks.

Wow! I didn’t Lenape yesterday and hated it! Too many rocks and ankle deep in mud at many parts and frankly not so pretty. This trail was amazing. I trail ran most of it. Trees were so tall and beautiful and felt 100’s of years “lush”. For a hike I would say easy. For a run it was just enough. Not too many people for a Sunday during pandemic. By 1pm at end it was more crowded. I will come back on a weekday. Follow the directions below to find the trailhead. Oh I came within 3 inches of running on top of a small black snake. Ugh

It’s a nice, pretty well maintained trail - but pretty mild in terms of a workout and there’s not much to see. Lots of nice green trees this time of year. I would recommend parking at Lewis Morris County Park and walking down Sugar Loaf Rd to get to the clearing where the trail starts. If you want to do some uphill, start to the left, if you want mostly downhill, go through the grass on the right to the trail. It’s still just over 7 miles if you follow the trail and count the walk back and forth to the parking lot.

Nice seeing a couple historic places but I thought the trail overall was boring. Be good to bring a dog or kids to

Lovely day today for a nice easy walk. Wasn’t too muddy at all, but was quite crowded given the weather. Takes about 2 hrs, best to park at Soldiers Huts parking lot to avoid the sightseeing groups.
