Very well maintained. Some rocky sections but nothing too steep. Nice tree canopy in most segments of this trail, a nice respite from the sun. At the monument it was very windy which is apparently quite common.

It’s a great mid-distance loop. A nice mixture of climbs and flat terrain. You’ll pass hardwood trees, a flowing creek, a small lake, and some nice overlooks. It’s a great way for new high pointers to check a state high point off the list. If you are a high pointer, I recommend going clockwise on the trail so you climb into the high point near the end of your hike.

Good hike not very challenging in terrain but good elevation. There’s a couple of scenic out cropping . Trail is well marked . Upset that the state line isn’t marked . I know silly . Just has posted trespassing signs

Conditions as of 3-31-18
Snow is sporadic and deep in spots . mostly dry overall .

Cool spot being the highest point of NJ .

Nice little hike around the top of the mountain. All the really good views can be seen from the monument which is awesome

It was a really well marked trail! A bit confusing once you hit the monument though. I would definitely recommend.

I thought the trail was great but being an out of stater, I had to pay $20. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth so I'm only giving this place 3 stars.

Great trail! Hiked the trail so that we would come to the monument towards the end of the hike. We had the trail completely to ourselves. Didn't see anyone until we came to the parking lot by the monument, and there were only about 10 other people there. Once we were back on the trail it was empty. Great views throughout the hike. Well marked trail. There are restrooms when you get to the monument parking lot. Planning on doing this one again in the fall when the leaves are changing.

Quick hike for you soul

Found no ticks during July. Makes for a great, slow hike or cool run!

This is a easy, level trail that surrounds Sawmill Lake. It passes a number of primitive campsites and has views of the lake. It's about a mile around and would be good for kids or just to get out and stretch you legs. The lake would also be a good place to take kids bluegill fishing.

Blue dot was a fun climb and decent. The AT and Iris were mainly plain sailing. All three trails were very rocky, however, so prepare to have your feet and ankles banged up a little. But it's worth it for some beautiful vistas.

Fun but moderately trafficked trail that leads to the monument. Some parts of trail are rocky and steep, but take your time and it's a breeze.

Did this trail in the tail end of a snowstorm that dumped 6-8 inches, made it challenging. There were high winds at the monument, great views all around when the snow finally stopped, and not a soul in sight. March 2017, park roads weren't cleared at 10 a.m. because it was still snowing, so I couldn't drive any further than Lake Marcia and hiked up from there. Great little hike with some stairs-like sections.

Visited this area in August. Found nice views from Monument and very vivid nature around it.

I started out on the Explorer trail (blue) and went past the Outlook Lodge to Old Swenson Farm trail (yellow). I could not find the remainder of the loop as shown despite following the unmarked trail all the way to Wyker Farmhouse. There was heavy brush, barbed wire fencing, and no trespassing signage. Also my Lusscroft Farm Trails map does not show any routes in that direction.

Since there was freezing rain and I was hiking in fresh snow I decided to cut my losses and head home. I backtracked and took the Americorps Mtn trail (blue) to the Shortcut trail (orange) and back to the yellow trail. I took the Tenderfoot trail (pink) to the Spring House and back to the trailhead on Neilson Rd.

I will return to explore this area more. There are cool old buildings, lots of animal tracks, and a few hunter tree stands. Since I came here in February I did not encounter any ticks, but I will be sure to wear repellent clothing if I am back in warmer months.

Fun hike with a group of Boy Scouts. Parking is close to the monument. Can be steep in spots but fairly easy overall.

It was great. Definitely need a hiking shoe on to do it. The jagged rocks were killing my feet thru my sneakers & the leaves covering the rocks this time of year left me unable to tell what i was stepping down on. Great weather and a great trail w/ beautiful views.

Great trail, last 1/4 mile is all up hill but do able. Took my wife and 9 year old. It was their first hike and they both enjoyed it.

Great beginner trail, stairs at the end if the loop are a beast but manageable.

Relaxing loop with plenty of opportunity to side step the trail for mountainous overlooks. Dirt trails were well maintained and clearly marked. The occasional slope of rocks and roots made for a nice step workout.

A little confusing as to where to start out. We wound up following the blue trail makers which then turn into the red/green & blue. Great view points. A bit of a rocky path but manageable.
