Cheesequake State Parks uniqueness lies in its geographical location. Not only is it situated in the middle of the urban north and the suburban south, it lies in a transitional zone between two different ecosystems. Open fields, saltwater and freshwater marshes, a white cedar swamp, Pine Barrens, and a northeastern hardwood forest are the main characteristics of the park.
This was Charlie's first outing off leash. He did very well and never strayed too far.
As far as the trail goes, this is a pretty place to hike. Fairly level throughout with just a couple of bumps here and there. Lots of boardwalks and wooden stairs. Not bad at all for a spur of the moment short trip.
I also had the pleasure of meeting the folks from the nj hiking.com website. Very nice people who have a ton of NJ hiking videos up on their YouTube channel.
