Nice trail. Only saw one other hiker on a Saturday. The trail markings around the camp grounds were confusing. The trail runs immediately to the left of the privy. Other than that it was was marked

well marked. clean. beautiful.

This was a really nice hiking spot. The trail was well marked and enjoyable. There was a beautiful lake by the campground and the a fire tower at the end of the trail.

I parked along Carranza rd near the memorial and hiked in towards the Batona Camp. I hiked to the Apple Pie Hill Fire Tower and back to Carranza rd. Nice flat hike on soft pine needles and sandy trail bed. About 8 miles total. Points of interest are the Carranza Memorial, Batona Camp and the Fire Tower. There is also a scenic pond near the camp. The Pine Barrens are a nice change of pace for me. Ill hike this entire trail in sections. 53 miles total.

I have run the entire trail in all four seasons, I can appreciate a trail anywhere but the terrain is painfully flat, and the sights and sounds are somewhat bland. There are LOTs of major road crossings so the sense of a peaceful wilderness experience is short lived. Firetowers are pretty cool though, so the flat terrain offers a view for miles. Bring bug spray, and be mindful of some of the spur trails marked similarly to the single pink blazes.

Stayed overnight at this campground in mid-November 2014 with a group of boy scouts. We hiked in from the Apple Pie Hill Fire Tower. It was nice to see the nearby Carranza Memorial at night.

Did the trail in three days. I saw only a handful of people.
