The Musconetcong River, with some of the best trout fishing in the state, winds through Allamuchy Mountain State Park. Several miles of trails crisscross through the forests and marshlands of the park. Waterloo Village, which is located on the banks of the Morris Canal, is well known for its historic buildings and diverse cultural programs of classical and popular music as well as dance and opera.

We come here often and its always a beautiful hike!

Very accessible from NYC. Easy for our dog, if a little muddy at times. A great, easy afternoon hike.

ok trail , a lot of up hills for mtb

Easy/Moderate trail. Beautiful dense forest, all shadowed. But really nothing special, no destination or target and I rarely met so many annoying mosquitoes!!! If you wanna hike there be sure to bring a gallon of mosquito repellent!!!
I was with my dog: just one fresh water steam at the beginning of the trail.
1h15’ the loop (because of the mosquitoes I guess)

Quick easy hike with nice views. Would recommend to someone who doesnt hike much or who wants to get into hiking. Couple of times ive been here not many people on the trail which is nice.

Nice and easy starting trail. If you start on The Waterloo Village Side, Wildlife you may see along the trail are beavers, turkeys, deer, turtles, birds, chipmunks, lots of squirrels, and yes, the occasional bear. Water levels can vary depending on rainfall and the iron mine trail was flooded for the last year or so due to a beaver dam but it appears the beaver has since moved on and the trail is now open again. There are several offshoot trails to try as well. There are a few minor waterfalls and lakes along the way and one part comes out to Cranberry Lake which is a really nice view. You do have to cross some streets to get to the continuation after Tamarack Road and then the trail narrows a bit at that point but it’s a very nice hiking, biking, and running trail and great for dogs.

This yellow trail was a pretty and peaceful trail. About 5 miles for us.

well marked trail through the woods. enjoyed very much!

This park is a gem....this trail is an old railway bed so it's flat as can be. The sound of water can be heard along good portions of it. You can walk it all year basically....Excellent place to go.

Nice forest setting, well marked. Did the yellow loop, gps clocked 3.7 miles. Easy side of moderate for sure.

It's a nice loop, I would say on the easier side of moderate.

beautiful trail.

Great winter day for a walk in the woods

Hiked on New Years morning. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We hiked down to the lake on the ice covered blue trail then hiked out on the white trail. Great day.

Fun ride. Not terribly difficult. There were a few moderate climbs on the route I took and some nice flat spots. I only ran into 6-8 people out on hikes. I'll be back in the early spring

I've never done this exact loop but have combined all the trails here in different order. There's a great view at the top of white to yellow to L at teal. It's a pretty place with a heavy canopy and blind corners. I have seen bears here and lots of bear sign. Solo hikers should really carry pepper spray to be on the safe side. Although attacks are rare, 90% occur on solo hikers. Food for thought.

Flat, kinda boring, but good for a quick jog or if you'd rather walk in nature vs. your neighborhood. The trail is great for bikers and continues well past what is shown here. Try the hiking trails that are off of this trail. The white trail to the yellow to the teal leads to a great view and is just about 2 miles RT

Very flat until the turn onto the Iron Mine Trail. Then there are some moments of steepness but nothing all that severe. The flat section gets a decent amount of mountain bikers. But the Iron Mine Trail portion was as quiet as can be.
