Great little hike with view of squam lake. We missed trail fork and ended up way off so bushwhacked straight up using this apps map as guide. Luckily mountain is a small one!

Great views of Squam Lake. Easy and short hike. If there is a downside (and this is really reaching) would be the noise pollution from the people on the lake.

Great family hike, well groomed trail. Kids had no problem. Amazing views of the lake from the lookout at the top.

Super simple and easy trail, and wow, wow, what a view.

Great view

Opportunity to swim on this hike. Wintergreens & blueberries when in season.

Looking for West Rattlesnake Mountain, we actually hiked East Rattlesnake. With two adventurous youngsters and three willing adults, we summited to a gorgeous view of Big Squam Lake. We hiked up the red trail and hiked back on the green trail. The red trail was more challenging than the green trail, but after the strenuous hike up and the rewarding view, the hike down was a leisurely stroll back to Pinehurst Rd. Naturally we celebrated with a soft serve ice cream cone from Riverside Restaurant in Ashland!

Perfect trail for a hike and picnic.

There is only a small parking area and it shares it with another trail. be careful about where you park. The local residents apprently arnt pleased aboutits popularity. I got a parking ticket.

Beyond that this is a fairly easy hike. The first mile has the only elevation gain and after that its a trip around the peninsula. There is a large sign marking the UNH conservation land. There are 2 or 3 sandy beaches to swim from and a larger flat rock beach towards the middle. This was the largest waypoint.

if it werent for the parking issues. I would rate this 5 stars.

I fought my ticket and had it rescinded. The local police department told me the town is working on better parking accommodations.

Also don't be fearful of the crowds at the trailhead. They are almost all heading for the other trail. We only ran into 3 or 4 other groups on five fingers.

The climb is steep all the way to the summit of Rattlesnake mountain, but the view is awesome and well worth it.
