Parked at AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center and crossed the street to pick up the trail. Cool start to trail with the water and the climb up to the ledge looked intimidating but was ok. There were enough flat rocks to step on and climb up.
Even though this is rated easy due to distance, I would consider it moderate due to level of difficulty. It is fairly steep throughout the entire hike. Very rocky and no level walking whatsoever. At the end you are climbing rocks and boulders and it's a very steep incline. The view is spectacular on the ledge and is worth the hike!
The short Square Ledge Trail is near the visitors center; very steep at the top through large boulders, but is easy climbing. Nice view from the top and used for rock climbing and rappelling, with about a 40-foot cliff face to the ledge. We met some camp counselors at the top who were securing ropes and pitons. I'll add some photos.
