Very good hike, it’s well worth the 16$ fee ! The trail is in perfect condition, and there are a lot of information points along the way. The waterfall is amazing and you know everything about it when you leave. It took us about 1h40. Worth it even under a lot of rain !

I hiked down this trail after going up the Falling Water trail. I chose to do it this way because it was a shorter distance to the top and then a more gradual incline to Lafayette. The three peaks are all awesome and worth seeing. Check out my full trip report along with some things to look out for.

very short and a little steep! it’s pretty much a rock staircase most of the way up! beautiful views of cannon and echo lake! my pup did great, even though it’s a little bit of a rocky scramble!

Great scramble to the summit of Mount Flume, with lots of snow on the trail over to Mount Liberty. The scrambling is not that hard for those that are used to rock, and there are lots of side trails to get over any spot that is too difficult. The snow between the peaks was solid, but when it warms up in the next few days you will probably be post holing. Great as a loop as just going up and down Liberty trail would be kind of a bore

Beautiful piece of trail and picked a perfect day to do it. Would never do it in bad conditions (way too exposed). Trail conditions now are pretty good but watch out for slippery slabs. I would strongly recommend that if the weather is good, take the detour to lonesome lake, a really good place for bird watching.

05.16.2018 - Hiked up to the lonesome lake via the basin cascade brook trail. The river crossing was difficult. We ended up bushwhacking to find a good place to cross. After about 25 minutes off trail we ended up taking our boots off and wading across and got back on the trail. There was some snow in places. However, it wasn’t really a problem. No micro spikes needed. We ended up going down via the lonesome lake trail to Lafayette place and hiked the pemi trail 2 Miles back to the basin.

Beautiful scenery! Highly recommend!

This trail is not bad, it’s probably great in the summer/fall, BUT, if you’re going there anytime soon, please bring some micro-spikes because there is still a ton of ice and about 2/3 feet of snow in some areas. I did this with some friends today and it took us so long because we were all terrified of getting hurt. We had good hiking shoes and trekking poles, but that didn’t save us from the intense postholing, slipping, and bruising for at least a third of the trail. The trail is shaded so that’s really nice, and there’s not much to see until you get to the summit/pass by the lake. We went up to Mt. Cannon summit via the Hi-Cannon trail (not well marked FYI) and made our way down via the Lonesome Lake trail - the views were cool and the lake was a nice reward after surviving the ice.

I had a great time on this trail. Nice and steady incline, but I wouldn’t describe it as steep. The view is great at the top. Would be perfect for a picnic lunch!

We are new to hiking but this is my favorite hike yet (and we hiked Shenandoah last year). It's off season so there was literally not one other person on the trail. It was still icy in places but melted enough to get around it. The trail features 2 covered bridges, a huge waterfall, frozen falls, the gorge, the rushing Pemigewassett River, a 40 ft deep pool, giant boulders, awesome lookout over the river and gorge, fascinating trees growing around rocks. the temperature change near the river was significant and felt so refreshing! A little steep and challenging in spots but I would say the easy side of moderate. For me, the perfect hike!

one of my new favorite hikes! fantastic trail, extremely well marked. steady incline, but not too steep. the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking! (and smells like christmas trees!)

*the trailhead is at the very back of the flume gorge parking lot off exit 34a*

Nice trail. Lots of incline. The tunnels going under 93 are fun for kids. Trail still had some snow when we did it in april. Nice view at summit.

Beautiful gorge with a lovely bubbling brook - just be sure to be there before they open in the morning and be the first to hit the trail if you're visiting in spring/summer/fall. Otherwise it can get unpleasantly busy.

Great view at the top. Very steep climb, trekking poles and micro spikes were VERY helpful. When I went last month the snow was 3-4 feet deep (off trail) and the trails were packed snow/ icy. Would hike it again once the snow melts.

Short, easy walk on paved path to Profile Lake. Great views and a really nice monument paying tribute to the “Old Man” and where he resided.

Beautiful to view in the winter with frozen and running falls. Some icy areas, wear proper footwear to make it easier. Loved the winter beauty!

nice trail, great views, lake is frozen
steep hike at two spots

Amazing views, and easily accessible right off Route 93. We took our time for pictures and snack breakd and made a full day of it, 8:30-6ish, but more motivated climbers would be able to this in far less time. Do this hike!

Nice scramble at the end, I'd suggest doing the loop to liberty (and go up via Flume). We personnally get going on the ridge to the franconia loop - big day but worth it! Getting many 4000 footers

Nice hike, we did this in about 4-5 hours late September 2017. The trail was in good condition and easy to follow. The ridge part is great. This can be a longer day hike if you do a bigger loop including mount Flume (start with mount flume) and walking down the valley back to your car.

We did this back in late September. Nice and easy trail, this was to complement our day on the franconia ridge. It's a nice stroll by the lake, but not spectacular.

Not a lot of effort for a big reward of a hike. Great waterfall and flume views. Good amount of hard packed snow on the trail. Cramp ons definitely helped but saw other hikers wearing sneakers. Didn’t pass too many people but I’m sure it’s crawling with people in the warmer months.

Great trail with great views of Echo Lake and Cannon ski trails. Trail is still icy in parts, made the descent somewhat tricky. Wouldn’t attempt again for a few weeks until the ice is clear.

Did it on 4/7/18. It was a beautiful day with good sunshine. It had snowed 2-3 inches the previous day and so there was some fresh snow. There is a ledge near the North peak which had some amazing views. We spent around 1.5 hrs on the South peak. It was snowing slightly on the way back. Made for an awesome sight at Lonesome Lake.

About the trail, it's pretty straightforward with a few icy spots. I used microspikes on the way up and snowshoes on the way down.

Time spent hiking, excluding the 1.5hr break was 8hrs.

Definitely recommend doing the short, but steep hike up to Bald Mountain. Adds a little bit of distance and a lot of elevation, but worth the work. I recommend spikes on the loop. Hiked this today and the trail conditions vary all around...snow, then ice, then mud, then ice covered in snow. I'm sure this will continue the next couple weeks as the weather warms up, so just use caution.

Went in really late at 3 PM. Summit at 6 PM. Parking lot at 8PM. The wind at the top was very strong. Good views. Bring spikes.

I have lived about half hour from the flume since 1983. I have only missed a handful of summers when I did not do the trail. It was not until last winter that I realized it could be hiked in the winter.
I finally had the opportunity to take advantage. Trails were great and scenery spectacular.

Nice and Steep right out of the gate. Totally socked in all day so no view but you can tell it would be stunning. Tons of deep snow, hiking in the tree tops. Good day.

Gorgeous day, amazing views. This trail is a like a stair on steroids. Definitely going back and doing this in summer once again.

Saw someone running up and down this mountain for a workout. Wow.
