I wouldn’t rate this as hard, more of a moderate hike. The parking is about a mile away from the trail head from the basin, (I used maps app to find the parking and it was different than listed) we walked on pavement on the bike path for about a mile. The waterfalls are beautiful, the hike is not too difficult, and the view at the top of mt. Liberty is gorgeous! Keep in mind, it’s about 0.3 more to the summit AFTER the liberty springs trail. This only takes u to the intersection of Franconia ridge. About 7.7 mi total from where we parked to the top and out. Highly recommend

Very good hike, it’s well worth the 16$ fee ! The trail is in perfect condition, and there are a lot of information points along the way. The waterfall is amazing and you know everything about it when you leave. It took us about 1h40. Worth it even under a lot of rain !

Perfect day hike. I only saw 2 people toward the beginning of the trail and then had the whole place to myself. Beautiful views at the top!

05.16.2018 - Hiked up to the lonesome lake via the basin cascade brook trail. The river crossing was difficult. We ended up bushwhacking to find a good place to cross. After about 25 minutes off trail we ended up taking our boots off and wading across and got back on the trail. There was some snow in places. However, it wasn’t really a problem. No micro spikes needed. We ended up going down via the lonesome lake trail to Lafayette place and hiked the pemi trail 2 Miles back to the basin.

We are new to hiking but this is my favorite hike yet (and we hiked Shenandoah last year). It's off season so there was literally not one other person on the trail. It was still icy in places but melted enough to get around it. The trail features 2 covered bridges, a huge waterfall, frozen falls, the gorge, the rushing Pemigewassett River, a 40 ft deep pool, giant boulders, awesome lookout over the river and gorge, fascinating trees growing around rocks. the temperature change near the river was significant and felt so refreshing! A little steep and challenging in spots but I would say the easy side of moderate. For me, the perfect hike!

Beautiful gorge with a lovely bubbling brook - just be sure to be there before they open in the morning and be the first to hit the trail if you're visiting in spring/summer/fall. Otherwise it can get unpleasantly busy.

Beautiful to view in the winter with frozen and running falls. Some icy areas, wear proper footwear to make it easier. Loved the winter beauty!

Nice scramble at the end, I'd suggest doing the loop to liberty (and go up via Flume). We personnally get going on the ridge to the franconia loop - big day but worth it! Getting many 4000 footers

It's a nice trail, but don't do that, do the whole loop on the franconia ridge, it's definitely worth the few extra miles! You are already up there, so why skip the best part?

We did this back in late September. Nice and easy trail, this was to complement our day on the franconia ridge. It's a nice stroll by the lake, but not spectacular.

Not a lot of effort for a big reward of a hike. Great waterfall and flume views. Good amount of hard packed snow on the trail. Cramp ons definitely helped but saw other hikers wearing sneakers. Didn’t pass too many people but I’m sure it’s crawling with people in the warmer months.

I have lived about half hour from the flume since 1983. I have only missed a handful of summers when I did not do the trail. It was not until last winter that I realized it could be hiked in the winter.
I finally had the opportunity to take advantage. Trails were great and scenery spectacular.

Gorgeous day, amazing views. This trail is a like a stair on steroids. Definitely going back and doing this in summer once again.

Saw someone running up and down this mountain for a workout. Wow.

The ascent is moderately steep, but it is fairly level at the end. We did this in February, we walked straight across the lake. The views aren’t fabulous, as you are surrounded by mountains that are taller than you, but it is still pretty and unique.

I really enjoyed this hike. It is pretty hard so if hiking isn't done often then pace yourself. I felt t was a great winter hike. Though because of the cold, clouds, and lack of view we did not hit Flume. Couldn't see 25 feet off the mountain but it was fun!

Went hiking here yesterday and it was beautiful with the snow and ice! Absolutely a must do in the winter. I will never want to come back here in open season again. I have been here in the summer and it was so crowded I was getting annoyed....winter is empty and FREE and beautiful!

do this. every one who is able should do this. so.amazing. if you do it in winter go into the middle of the lake and look all around you. and if you're able, do the kinsmans. it's beautiful. went in late February and didn't need snow shoes because the trail was packed down. but did need cramp ons

The trail at this time of year was very snowy. Combined with a steep incline, you definitely need some sort of crampons or snow shoes.
Views were amazing going up and even better at the top. The lake was frozen enough to walk across, which make for cool photos.
Definitely recommend.

We went up the Lonesome lake trail and down the Dodge Cut-off. Very mellow. Didn't need snowshoes, only our foot spikes. We passed a family headed up to stay overnight at the hut.

Awesome snowshoeing! Lake frozen so you can walk on it. Visit the hut, great people.

love this place. Hiked it alone and saw absolutely no one. Only me and the wilderness and God.

Great easy winter hike. Snow is packed on the trail. No need to use snow shoe. It was nice to cross the lake and take a break at the hut!

Beautiful frozen streams that led to the frozen Falls. Ice climbers were climbing the frozen Falls in the gorge which was cool to watch. Moderate hike & very beautiful in the winter.

Amazing winter hike, would recommend micro spikes for safety. If looking at the closed visitor center (closes during winter), trail is directly to the left of building. Gorge is stunning in frozen conditions or right after snow fall. Highly recommended trip. Easy hike.

Used this trail up to Bald peak and onto the KRT, great long hike. Fun butt sliding on the ridge too.
