This hike is pretty cool! On our way up we found a baby blue jay that had fallen out of his nest. We corralled him with sticks to make sure nobody else stepped on him. We made sure not to touch him though, so hopefully he’s doing better! There’s a bridge at the beginning of this hike, and it gets rockier at the top. Closer to the summit, there are really awesome rock formations that have been formed. Not the best view for a sunset, but probably good for sunrise! We personally felt the the look out was better NOT at the summit.

Steep and rocky at some points but very well worth the hike. Views are beautiful and the trail was well maintained. We went up Piper Mt. Trail and back down the way we did because we didn't want to walk on the road. A bit buggy at the top, bring bugspray.

I came from Rand so I just did the loop, excellent trail conditions. Honestly I found that with picaridin based fly spray, and a good pace kept the bugs at bay. So many lady slippers blooming!!

Well marked and some great views. Went up Gunstock and over to Belknap. Trails were easy to follow. There are some areas that are steep, so keep in mind for some hikers.

My dog and I loved this trail! Minimally challenging, beautiful view at the top with a large area to sit and relax, and well shaded trails. No bugs yet either. Parking was down the road quite a ways so prepare to get to the trail early in order to find a spot. The last mile or so of the trail was dirt road so be prepared for that, as well.

This was a beautiful trail and perhaps the most well marked trail I’ve ever been on despite the fact that it changed trail names multiple times. There were blazes & sign posts regularly. I wouldn’t recommend going all the way to Whiteface Mtn because the last stretch is an ATV trail that is both poorly marked and not as scenic. Lots of great views; highly recommend this hike. It took us about 7 1/2 hours plus a stop for lunch.

Great trail. To many out of staters. Stay away till covid is over. Markers were hard to find on white trail. Not many view but great hike!

It was a great hike and was well marked. The views were great and the way back was a good scramble. Overall I would call it moderate instead of hard.

This was a very nice trail. A good length for beginners. Not too steep. Some ups some downs. Very nice views at the top. The second half of the hike is like on a 4-wheeler trail so lots of dried mud.

So thankful for AllTrails!! Parts of straightback are not marked well. Otherwise a beautiful hike! So many dragonflies!! Minimal bugs (I brought high DEET spray though)

A great hike with great views. Is was buggy but what really else can anyone expect? Parking was a little tricky but we found parking and made due. Beautiful weather. Lots of sun at the top. Very pretty

Great short hike straight up to the top! We chose not to do the loop to avoid having to walk along the road, but the Piper Mountain Trail (marked red) made for a great hike today. Kinda buggy at the top, but no issues with them while walking up.

Beautiful view from major, I would recommend going up straight back.

This is a very nice loop trail, packed down well, dry, pretty views of the pond on the way. We hiked up the green trail to the red in a counter-clockwise rotation. Parking had one other vehicle when we got there and a different when we left. We didn’t see anyone else hiking so it was a peaceful hike. That being said, today was EXTREMELY buggy and even with bug spray, they were relentless. We hiked to Mack first after reading that Klem was wear the views were (?). Mack had pretty good view points right before the summit, but we waited to get to the summit of Klem to take a break to enjoy the views we read about on so many other reviews. Don’t let the other reviews pull a fast one on you, summit of Klem is wooded. Completely. Wooded. There is a stopping point right after the summit (if going counter-clockwise as we did), but it’s about 0.2 miles away from the top. Highly recommend doing this hike on a cooler day to deter bugs, otherwise you’ll look like you have measles.

Great trail! Steady uphill throughout and very buggy. We got a little lost half way up.. as the trail went from well marked to trees down and heavy leaves. We found the trail again after 5 or so minutes. We only saw one other person on the trail today as well. The view at the top is spectacular!

Completed this loop today. We went up Mack first. The trail itself is great, it’s well packed down and very easy to follow, no mud. The bugs were atrocious today, I don’t think I’ve ever had so many mosquito bites and bug spray did not deter them. The summits themselves have no views, just signs, but there are spots on the way up and down that have decent views and we would have stopped to enjoy it had the bugs not been there.

Solid hike with wide trails, easy ridge line, and great views at Mt Major. Not much canopy on Straightback and lots of bugs. Bring tick repellent.

It was a great trail and a pretty nice warm up hike to kick of the season. It’s about 1.3 miles to Piper Mountain summit and honestly it has the best views. We did it with our dogs with no trouble and there were only 2 other people on the trail!

Ends up being just over 11m and took 4.5h. Great loop with varying scenery. Elevation gain near 2400.

Great trail... once you get there. The gate leading to the upper parking lot where the trail head starts was closed. Not sure if it was because it was Memorial Day or some other reason, there were no signs, but parking at that gate tacked on about another 2.4 miles to the hike of paved and then dirt road. This was welcomed for me but not so much the two six year olds I had in tow. Luckily, once we got off the road the trail was magical to them, and they quickly had good spirits. There was a side stream running down the entire length of the road which helped to keep them occupied.

Straightback Trail starts steep but once you get closer to the ridge line it flattens out and opens up in some pretty great views. Obviously the view from Mt. Major is the best. Easy going downhill and stopped to cool off in the brook.
