Beautiful fall hike! Too late for aspens but still a nice, moderate hike

Nice easy loop to do with the dog or friends where you’ll run into very few others. You have a couple trail options, and BBSP is a somewhat confusing web of not-well-marked trails (doesn’t help that the mountain bikers are always cutting new trails - nice to have the trails but even more confusing for newbies). I usually take ledge hill trail in (which is off Bear hill trail - see the map I added to photos). Maps can be hard to come by! Ledge trail is very cool with stone steps and huge rocks like a fairy tale forest. I always like to pop over to see Bear Hill Pond off Ferret trail, too. Particularly pretty during fall foliage. The trail heading to Bear Hill from there gets pretty wet and is hard to discern from the various logging cuts but there are some neat ant hills at the top. You can Bear Hill trail back to avoid walking the road. Watch for porcupines, especially at dusk. The hedgehog trail is erroneously named for porcupines. Be aware that this entire side of the road is open for hunting (the other side of Podunk is deer bow hunting only), so wear hunter orange whenever you’re in the park from September through early December (especially in November).

Nice trails with scenic views from top. Great foliage trail hikes from easy to moderate.

Great short hike!

This is a State Park which caters to many activities and that is good, certainly. On the other hand, if you are hiking and look for some solitude there are better options, eg Pawtuckaway SP not far away. Too many mountain bikers on the trails.
No complaint, mountain bikers need to be able to do their sports as well and I support this, as I am cycling too (road) but for hiking folks there are better places....
Just my 5 cents worth.

Good trail, good time of year for it. Took the doggo. You pay for parking at the park entry station right at the trailhead, like $4-8, they might have you park across the street from the trailhead and walk over. We got to the peak of the hill in no time, so we explored the surrounding trails. It was calm, but a bit lackluster.

I went last week and it was great! nice little view!

I went last week. Usually I enjoy this trail because it’s easy and beautiful and lightly hiked. Last week, I pulled about 20 ticks off my dogs after the hike. It’s the only place in New Hampshire I’ve been that is absolutely loaded with tIcks.

Nice hike, didn't take too long, but the trail isn't just poorly marked -- for the most part it isn't marked at all. Very frustrating at the start. We didn't encounter another hiker, just a biker at the start and a walker with his dogs at the end.

Great hike, trails were slightly hard to keep track of. Beware if you have a dog, I pulled 7 ticks off of mine.

Nice trail, however not marked very well. We saw several lady slippers along our way. The trail ( 1 mile trail) leading to the main trail had several bikers but once on the main trail (Catamount trail), there was no one but us hiking. I rated this trail a 4 star due to poor signage.

Well maintained and well marked trails. This trail is predominantly wooded with few elevation changes. I hiked in June and encountered a lot of mosquitoes, and my dog got covered in ticks.

Nice easy trail. No views but a nice walk in the woods feel. Saw some bear droppings half way through, but saw no bear. Took our 7 year old and had no problem at any point on the trail.

A perfect combo of all great things in nature- steep areas, foresty areas, babbling brooks, and a waterfall. Gorgeous day! Numerous trails can be a bit confusing, but signage is pretty good. I hopped on the Cascade Trail after Little Bear- great choice.

Great trail! Took my dog, she had a great time and we got some good exercise! Be cautious of a few downed trees in certain parts of the trail.

I walked this counter clockwise in direction and it’ seems to be the best way — lots of stone steps and just long enough and interesting- for a dog walk. I have mountain bikes this and they have made recent improvements to make it more mountain bike friendly. Under used more than likely won’t see a soul

trail running
Friday, August 11, 2017

I had an hour to kill while out of town and this was perfect! Took about twice as long to get to the top as it did to come down, but the views were worth it. Well marked, fairly technical, and is mostly rock towards the top. Wish I had time to go longer- worth the $4. Heads up, they only take credit cards in the booth near catamount. The main entrance is cash only.

Cut our loop short because of the threat of thunderstorms but still a nice trail loop we made. Pretty easy with 3 kids and only slight inclines. Would be great for mountain bikes!

Very short but a good climb and lots of fun. There is not much of a view due to trees blocking the vista but it was a great hike. The trail is not marked with blazes, but occasionally there are white markers that say catamount. There are many little trails that run off the trail that are obvious in the summer, which are possibly mountain bike trails

The way we went, which was the most clear path (up Catamount, down Catamount shortcut, didn't bother doing the extension at the top) was only about 2 miles. Makes it an easy to intermediate hike. Yes the whole way up is an incline, but it's not too steep. Catamount shortcut is a shorter way up, but much steeper!

Great, quick hike with gorgeous views

Absolutely gorgeous. The trail was well marked and very quiet for it being a 70 degree afternoon in October. Totally worth the 4 dollars per person park fee.
