Parking is at the cafe at the bottom of the trail. The views for this trail were pretty amazing and the trail is mostly sand and very well maintained. A lot of dogs off leash today. The elevation gain at the beginning of the hike is pretty significant, but the side trail leading to an overlook was a good place to enjoy the view! There was also some snow at the end of the hike before the turnaround. I brought micro spikes, but managed fine in my boots.

Trail temporarily closed because of erosion.

Slightly muddy. At the hole there is a significant amount of water so no going in. Three boys 7, 8, and 9, had no issues. Took alternate trails back. Phone worked the whole way so I knew we were ok, but honestly youre never out of sight of civilization.

A nice hike that is close to the city of Reno. Trail can get really muddy during wet seasons and crossing the river can be challenging when the river is high. Great views throughout and a satisfying waterfall at the end. I've done this trail in summer and winter and it was a good experience both times. A lot of other hikers and dogs.

I'm glad that I chose a day with a wind advisory to hike this trail. With the raging wind, I wasn't able to hear the traffic on the nearby highway. I was still able to hear the river and enjoyed that. Lots of Aspen's growing along the creek. Lots of Private Property signs. Not many large pine trees until the very end. Lots of sagebrush for most of the trail.

Amazing hike for March incredible views of waterfall and scenery. From summer to winter in one hike! Bring a sweater just in case

elevation gets very high but beautiful hike!!

This is a good trail, a little muddy since the recent snow and rain. Don’t be deterred by the no trespassing signs - I think they’re old and no one in sight. My dog and I got about an hour in and came upon what was assuredly a mountain lions hunting grounds. Multiple carcasses of large hooved animals ripped apart across the trail. Needless to say we turned back. But enjoyable till then!

Great!

Fun hike that's close to town. Lots of people out on a warm Sunday afternoon. Trail was pretty soupy in 5-6 spots from the rain and snow melt. Lots of footprints churning up the mud. Once in the tree line trail was very slick on the inclines. Waterfall was very pretty, as was the rest of the hike. Trail head is far enough from major roads that there was no sounds of town, only rushing water from the creek the whole way. Interesting to see where one of the recent fires affected and stopped.

fantastic trail for anyone in Reno. I love the sound of the creek as you hike.

I prefer the Hole in the Wall trail to this one. The difference of making a loop out of the trail doesn't add much scenery. It does add walking past fenced backyards and barking dogs. Trail was a mix of mud and snow after the last few days of snowfall. I would expect it to dry out quickly.

Couple inches of snow once you get in the trees but mostly dirt and mud on the way up. The trail can be easily followed and navigated. Recommend good traction on your shoes since the mud and snow can get a little slick on the steeper slopes. Great run! Especially coming back down! Enjoy!

Love the sound of the creek. After this last snowfall; there is about 2" at the bottom and 4" at the top. The creek running over the road with no bridge is fairly wide and didn't want to take the chance of wet paws.

This trail is by far one of my favorite places. Taking advantage of the unusually warm weather, I took my three boys up there yesterday. Just a few patches of snow on the trail, and yes, Barney is frozen over. It was a beautiful day. Ran into a few cross-country skiers wondering where the snow was. We need that snow for sure! I highly recommend continuing up the trail (tough climb) into Peeler Lake - a great place to camp.

Great trail!

Lots of views interrupted by houses. This trail is interesting in that it starts out right next to Thomas Creek, wanders away from the creek and out into the sage brush fields, back to the creek and then changes to the lower part of the forest. Aspen trees follow the creek the majority of the way. Trail has some fairly large rock as it's Nevada, but there were a couple of trail runners making their way along just fine.

Small amounts of snow on trail- some areas a little slick- 3 tiny stream crossings (nothing a little hop skip can't get you over). Great for being FEBRUARY!

Interesting trail. All of the elevation gain is in the first bit, the majority of the way is very level. The "Hole In the Wall" was much bigger than I expected. Nice hike this winter as I had the daughter and grand daughter along, so didn't need to worry about cold feet in snow. Didn't have any issues finding the trail, just used the map in the app and zoomed in to distinguish the route.

Great trail but very frustrating that so many dogs were off the leash! If your dog is nice that's great but you don't know how dogs will interact. It caused my hike to have moments of stress that I would rather not have to anticipate. The hike was beautiful, I would do it again without my dog.

It was beautiful

As it’s been noted, the trail head is hard to find. Just find parking near the river and take a right towards the bridge to find the trailhead.

perfect, except for getting caught in crossfire of idiot gun shooters...who goes shooting near hiking trails??? gah! home means nevada.

A quick and easy in town hike that gets you some good views of the city. No shade or tree cover. Friendly hikers and bikers. I like that there are many mini trails to change up scenery and difficulty. There are a lot of off leash dogs.
