this was the first time I hiked anything like this. I felt accomplished! We took my 3 grandkids and my dog and they did fine. Gorgeous views during the entire hike. we even had some rain. At the flat area near the top there is a small flat area you can camp. Leave no trace and no camp fires.

Great hike with friends. Uphill going to the top of Mount Charleston but you will be rewarded with a great view of the surrounding mountains and valley below. I would definitely do this hike again.

Beautiful trail to a stellar overlook! We were fortunate enough to get some of that rare Nevada rain on our way back down the mountain! It only added to the adventure and the beauty of the day! This trail is in great shape!

We just completed this hike in the rain and it was gorgeous. The view is phenomenal and totally worth the hike.

Awesome hike! Nice trail that has few people on it.

Great views. Well worth the work up.

I was trying to go to the Trail Canyon Overlook (not to be confused with Trail Canyon!), missed the turn off and wound up here. Glad I did! The view was great and it's always nice to get away from the Vegas heat. This hike is a great work out for the legs and lungs! On my way down, I found the turn off for Trail Canyon Overlook and made my way there. Unfortunately, that trail seemed impassable at a certain part, so I had to turn around. Will definitely do this hike again!

Great trail and hike to help beat the heat of Las Vegas. Took 4 adults and 6 kids ranging in age from 3-16. They all did great. Many places to stop along the way.

So far my absolute favorite hike as far as view goes. It isn't the most difficult hike but the views and foliage view are breath taking. A great hike for a date too. The top of the rock is a romantic one!!

I’m in average shape with some difficulty breathing at this altitude ... so that part was difficult for me but pushing through that it was worth it to get to the top of Cathedral Rock, worth the workout on my lungs and legs :). It was a beautiful hike would definitely do again and hope to continue to condition myself to join the world of outdoorsy types like you all!

I only marked it as decent because I could not finish the trail. I was only checking my app sporadically and wound up at Cathedral Rock (first time up these trails). I backtracked to the turn and headed for the Trail Canyon Overlook. The turn toward TCO is marked by a 4x4 post in the ground. If there was a sign it is no longer there. A little over half a mile later, it dead ends; right where the map shows a sharp right turn. There is no path there. I pushed through and came upon a built up manhole cover, but couldn’t go any further. I also tried scrabbling around the area to see if I could circumvent the growth, but no such luck.

Still, it is beautiful up here! I’ll give Cathedral Rock 5 stars.

Awesome hike - make sure you arrive early as parking was full at 8am. The hike is mostly comprised of inclines with two switchbacks at the end of the trail that gets you up to the viewpoint. Great views. Coming down was very relaxing and pleasant.

Just got back from this hike. Worth every ankle busting, hamstring flexing, quad building step! The view is incredible!
The whole hike up is pretty much an incline and mostly made up of switch backs, you'll be feeling it in your thighs halfway through but keep going. The hike down will be rough on the ankles. My legs are pretty much jelly fish right now. Its closer to 10 miles total.
The scenery goes from okay to great. The fire took out a lot of trees and early on you may find it discouraging but if you keep going it gets a lot greener.
You'll feel a sense of pride when you've made it.

Your first step out of the parking lot and onto the trailhead results in an elevation gain. As will 99.9% of the next steps you take over the five-mile ascent. Make no mistake, this is a soul-crushing, quad-burning punisher of a climb. (For reference, I'm 45, 6'1", a not-that-muscular 225 and I do an hour of cardio every day) I'm writing this 5 days after the hike and I can still feel it in my legs. And it's totally worth it! The views are stunning, especially to a Las Vegas local. Cool to be able to see Pahrump and Vegas from the same vantage point. At the summit there were an uncomfortable number of bugs - made us curtail our stay at the top. We clocked this at 10.4 miles RT on two different Apple watches. The 8.7 listed on the entry no longer holds up because the trailhead has been moved due to the construction at the parking area. (I've suggested an edit to the site) This very steep trail was rough on the knees on the way down as well. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on draught at the lodge afterwards was maybe the greatest beer experience of my life. EDIT: 6 hours RT with lots of stops.

Great place to get away from hot heat on moderately hard switchbacks good pay off

It’s beautiful, just too short... I found it perfect for a quick jaunt, a great little place to sit and have a snack, read or write. Several interesting caves.

beautiful yesterday

A steady hike upwards and a bit rockier than most of the trails I’ve hiked in Charleston. The view at the end was amazing and worth returning for. We stayed up there for a good bit. I’d recommend going on a weekday, otherwise it will be somewhat crowded.

Great practice for high elevation hikes

Great trail. More of an incline than from the description. Beautiful beautiful. Did this with my 8 month old on my back.

Absolutely amazing view at the top. Steady climb up the whole way. Definitely worth it.

A breath taking view. Moderate sized rocks for trail, steep incline for a good time. High altitude with slight shallow air at the peak. A beautiful trail that someone wouldn’t expect from Vegas. I Highly recommend it

steep and rocky but great views!

Have hike Cathedral Rock multiple times and always enjoyable. Fairly short hike, takes me about 1½ hours, including a break at the peak to admire the view. The elevation in general and the incline of the trail make for a good workout.

Walked this challenging trail with my daughter and her boyfriend. I’m 50 and out of shape. This was a great way to test the endurance and strength of a “old man”
The views are awesome and I will be returning to do some of the other trails on the Mt. Charleston range!

Great moderately difficult trail. Beautiful views, great amount of exercise if you’re looking for a short hike. There were multiple boomboxes on the trail, which was kind of annoying. It was also slightly crowded.

As good as it gets. Great cardio. Awesome views. And a little price at the end of the trail.

Nice hike, steady climb after steep start, good shade. Two tiny springs at top still flowing. Great place to beat Vegas heat!
