Explore the most popular mountain biking trails in Spooner Lake Management Area with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

This trail is amazing. I started at Spooner summit. Its steep at first then it gets better. I went off the trail a few times to see the lakes from the rocks. There are some hidden trails you can see in all trails to go up to the peak. I only went 3 hours out and turned around since I was not prepared with camping gear. You are allowed to camp along the trail and they advice to camp no further than 300ft from the trail. The altitude changes fast. This is not a beginner trail.

Parking is a bit of a challenge. That's a great thing as everyone else will have the same issue! I'm always a bit wary of a trail that goes down from the start but this one really isn't too long or steep. Lot's of big trees to enjoy. A large meadow that you'll catch glimpses of. The harbor is fairly small, but as beautiful as all the others in Tahoe. Nice having the signs about the bit of history associated with the area.

Tough climb but breathtaking views!

Lovely and easy trail down to the water. Crystal clear, would be nice in warmer months to take a swim. Old party house was cool. I can imagine this hike is very busy in the summer as there were lots of people hiking it in April cool weather. A boat was in the bay anchored for a lunch break too.

Great hike down to a not too busy section of Lake Tahoe. We love to bring a picnic and enjoy the day from this spot. The old party house is pretty neat, I can imagine all the Gatsby type parties that were thrown here back in the day. Getting back to the road is pretty steep so pack lightly.

Great little hike! Great for kids and dogs. The beach is a gem. Gorgeous views of the lake.

Nice easy hike. It was a bit muddy in places but that's part of the experience of hiking. Can wait to come back in the summer and ride it on the bike.

Great little trail around spooner lake. Easy hike, may be muddy in certain areas at times. Only downside is some dog poop or trash left by inconsiderate visitors.

Great easy trail for young kids. both shaded and non. Restrooms by the parkinglot (there is a day fee) with easy parking. little lake was beautiful and very peaceful. lots of birds, open grass and great wooded area. we only saw one other group there around 10am on a Sunday. Great for photos. Will do it again.

This was a pretty simple and straightforward hike with a really small but awesome beach. My puppy loved every minute of this hike and was sprinting all around just checking out all the smells!

Beautiful beach at the bottom. perfect for a day trip with kids. It is dog friendly as well. The beach can get busy and parking is an issue. Arriving early or late in the day will increase your chances of getting a spot. Trail can be a bit exposed so bring sunblock and H20.

Great place to take the little ones and introduce them to snowshoeing. Easy terrain and simple to follow.

Visiting from the Adirondack Mountain area of upstate New York. The grandeur of the Sierra's surrounding the emerald Lake Tahoe is a sort of beauty I have not experienced before.

Very easy trail, great views, there are short cuts if you want to live a little

Nice trail. I met a few people. It’s between easy and moderate. My dog handled the trail easily. There are nice spots with awesome views of the lake and Carson city at the same time.

Nice trail for a family. Easy for kids with lots to look at along the way.

I loved this hike!! It was a great, wide and smooth trail. Absolutely beautiful beach!! I can not wait to go again.

It was a nice hike which was extremely easy to do when compared to other hikes in Tahoe. Saw lots of dogs and my pup had fun. Sure made him tired.

It's a flat trail around a small lake. Good for an easy outing but not spectacular. well maintained dirt trail.

zigzag down a wide fire-service road to the water. its a bit steep. shady. neat old cabin at the bottom. very nice trail-recommended! sit on the rocks by the lake and have a snack

Beautiful first hike, the water smelled sweet, the forest flow was warm and piney, and the birch trees sang their song...

Nice trail around a beautiful lake. Only drawback is highway noise.

I hiked this trail on 09/19/17 with my wife. The trail is a lovely 2.1 mile round trip "walk" around a beautiful partially man made alpine lake. Scenic beautiful views of both the lake and forest that includes many "weeping" aspen, from the beginning to the end of the hike. Unlike a hike in the deep woods where there is limited sunlight, this trail provides plenty of light as you never venture far from the lakeshore. We were there too early in the autumn season to see much color other than a peek of yellow here and there. Interesting it was snowing a few days later at Spooner Lake. The negatives of this hike is that beside being a short hike it also very level, thus not much of a workout. An earlier review suggested do immediately do the hike again. We did not but it is an excellent suggestion. Another negative is that at certain points on the trail you can hear traffic noise from the nearby highway. I would like to mention on the positive side that the state parks of Nevada (of course including this one) are extremely well maintained. This includes the roadways, parking lots, trails, informative signage, and restrooms. Thank-you Nevada!

Easy hike. Very pretty. Make sure to check out the grinding stones from the Washo Indians at the north end of the lake. Nice interpretive signs along the way.

Skunk Harbor is beautiful. I would have labeled this trail as easy with some moderate parts which is a slow grade back up to the trailhead. The weather was cool fall crisp and perfect with few people on the trail. If you have to park at the second lot and don't want to get run over by cars finding your way to the trailhead there is a winding path from that second lot that connects to the trail. Great for letting dogs leash free enjoy playing outside. The scene at water's edge was breathtakingly peaceful.

Great trail. Does cost 10 dollars to enter.

Awesome trail. Great for kids and dogs. Easy to navigate and interesting facts to read along the trail.

This is a very easy trail and has plenty of benches along the trail to sit and take in the view. You will pass through aspen, fir and pine groves with alpine meadows and wetlands. There is a lot of variety in a very small area on this hike. The trail had quite a few groups on it when we went on 9/2, but we never felt crowded or like people were on our heels.
Great hike for older or younger folks, or for out of town guests.
