Get ready for a great workout! Nice views of Washoe Lake and beyond. Plenty of water at the Pond for a nice foot cooling.

A lot of snow from the meadow but good down to Price lake witch we didn't reach..bush whacking .Got to the outlet and then back.Good day and our dog loved it.

Great trail. Very steep for about a mile. Nice views, only saw one group of people (on a Friday afternoon). Snow was almost completely gone by June

Fun trail with Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and Reno. 50% of trail still snowy on 6/10/18 but easily doable with the right shoes

This trail is very steep, I would definitely not call it moderate. The views of lake Tahoe from the peak are breathtaking, worth all the effort.

Hike and dog walk. Lots of timber cutting along the ridge. Kinda ugly for a mile or so. We bailed out back to the TRT and called it a day.

Great trail and fairly easy hike. Though there are a couple slightly steep areas. I did the hike on 5/28/18 and about 1/2 is still snow covered and the snow is getting soft so you do sink in a few spots and I them spots I found it to be about knee deep or a little more.

Nice hike. Fairly busy though.

Still under snow when we arrived. Didn’t have the gear for snow hiking. Will try again later in summer.

Awesome little area to hike/snow shoe! Bring some bird seed and the birds come and land right on your hands!

I have so much fun on this trail! There are other versions of this same trail, but I'm more than happy to do it several times. The incline is quiet steep but the views are totally worth it.

Beautiful hike, with great views. The trail was a pretty snowy/muddy at parts, but still hikeable. I was recommended this hike by a volunteer at Galena visitors center and it did not disappoint.

Nice hike beautiful views

Snowshoed this today, it’s just beautiful. Be sure to bring birdseed, at the top there are little chickadees that will eat out of your hand!

We didn't make it to the top. The wind was howling and the snow was deep. I think it was in the low teens to single digits.
We'll give this a run again!

Nice hike!
Few runners and bikes but not overly packed with people.
Some snow and mud. Shoe chains helped in the few inches of snow on the ground.

This is a nice hike. We had a few inches of snow on the ground and icy areas you should be careful with.
The Dry Pond is pretty dry. It's more of a puddle with the potential of holding some water.

Easy little hike you need a nature dose after work. Access from town is very convenient and the creek is nice in the spring.

love that the birds eat from your hand

Beautiful close to town trail. Due to the length and elevation gain, I would put it in the easy category. Neat sounds from the wind through the pine needles and the leg that follows the stream. This will become a regular of mine for Sunday morning.

Beautiful hike and perfect weather. Some ice going downhill as well as some mud but an overall great hike.

Hike was beautiful, icy on the far side but very manageable. The trail was pretty busy but everyone was very nice! Great views! At a steady pace can be done in less than 3 hours. We will do this hike again soon!

Lots of snow to make snowshoeing fun! Lots of tracks to find the way to the top of Tamarack Peak. Pretty views.

Very nice moderate trail. Steep enough to get the blood pumping but not so bad as needing to stop and catch my breath. Not sure about where it says the trail starts, but this time of year, the gate is closed so you'll have to park on Timberline or go further up to the parking lot. Neat pond at the top, not much water, but being right at the top of the ridge is interesting.

Ok

on Rifle Peak

This hike has great views of the lake ! That being said, don’t let the mileage fool you, it’s not a moderate hike. The climb is a constant steep grade on loose slippery soil most of the way. If you are an experienced hiker and in good shape, I would recommend. If you are on vacation just looking for a “nice” hike, there are better choices.

Completed it on 1/1/18. The first mile was hiking, the next 0.5 needed micro spikes, and the last 0.5 needed snow shoes but is passable if you are willing to post hole.

Went on this hike during the first snow of the season. I was the first person on the trail that day (Started at 7:00AM) and the entire hike was very peaceful. It's a great little hike and is so close to Reno.

definitely hard. but wow so rewarding. I did this after the first snow so there was no visible trail, but if you know where the peak is and stay on a straight course it's not bad. park at gate and walk around tower. The views will take your breath away.

Marked as moderate but it was a pretty easy hike. Took around 3 hours to complete and that's cause we took our time.
