Still under snow when we arrived. Didn’t have the gear for snow hiking. Will try again later in summer.

Awesome little area to hike/snow shoe! Bring some bird seed and the birds come and land right on your hands!

Beautiful hike, with great views. The trail was a pretty snowy/muddy at parts, but still hikeable. I was recommended this hike by a volunteer at Galena visitors center and it did not disappoint.

Nice hike beautiful views

Snowshoed this today, it’s just beautiful. Be sure to bring birdseed, at the top there are little chickadees that will eat out of your hand!

We didn't make it to the top. The wind was howling and the snow was deep. I think it was in the low teens to single digits.
We'll give this a run again!

Nice hike!
Few runners and bikes but not overly packed with people.
Some snow and mud. Shoe chains helped in the few inches of snow on the ground.

Beautiful hike and perfect weather. Some ice going downhill as well as some mud but an overall great hike.

Hike was beautiful, icy on the far side but very manageable. The trail was pretty busy but everyone was very nice! Great views! At a steady pace can be done in less than 3 hours. We will do this hike again soon!

Lots of snow to make snowshoeing fun! Lots of tracks to find the way to the top of Tamarack Peak. Pretty views.

Very nice moderate trail. Steep enough to get the blood pumping but not so bad as needing to stop and catch my breath. Not sure about where it says the trail starts, but this time of year, the gate is closed so you'll have to park on Timberline or go further up to the parking lot. Neat pond at the top, not much water, but being right at the top of the ridge is interesting.

Went on this hike during the first snow of the season. I was the first person on the trail that day (Started at 7:00AM) and the entire hike was very peaceful. It's a great little hike and is so close to Reno.

Marked as moderate but it was a pretty easy hike. Took around 3 hours to complete and that's cause we took our time.

Beautiful hike! It was hard to find especially in the snow (October 21, 2017) but is a relatively easy hike. Park at the Tahoe meadow trail head parking lot off of Mt rose high way and County Road 340. Follow the signs for the Tahoe Meadows hike and when you get to the bridge you’ll see a sign for Ophir. We saw a few signs after that but made our own trail a little bit due to the snow. We used the all trail map to get back on the trail. After that it was an easier trail to follow. Mostly flat and downhill on the way out but had some step areas on the way back. We didn’t make it all the way to the lake because there was a large stream that we would have gotten very wet if we crossed. All in all a good hike. The pups loved it and the meadow allowed them to run around a lot!

This was one of the most rigorous hikes I have ever done. The second mile, straight up the mountain, you basically create your own trail. The views are great and you'll more than likely be the only one going this route. If you want a hike where you need to dig deep and seriously challenge yourself, this is the one.

Was planning to do the Ophir Creek Loop, but due to bad signage and incongruences between signs and the various maps in the park, we ended up getting lost and going all the way to Upper Lake. We were not prepared for the extra end of the trail we accidentally added one. Better signage would be extremely helpful for those of us who are directionally challenged.

Great hike, beautiful views and water rushing the majority of the time. Only downfall is the loop takes you onto asphalt to get back to the trailhead.
Great hike, even with the asphalt ending.

Going up the switchbacks and taking the time to stop and turn around to see the views offers a nice break. eating lunch at the dry pond is the perfect mid point of the hike.

We started at Tahoe Meadows trailhead and hiked down to Price Lake. Total hike was 8 miles (via Fitbit) and I would say moderate level for sure. After we hiked about 2 miles in we didn't see anyone until we started to head back which was very nice. When we got to the lake we had a picnic and had the lake all to ourselves. The lake is not swimmable but they had a nice campsite with a fire pit that would be fun to camp at. Nice waterfall to see when you get close to the lake. Definitely a workout but a very nice hike!

Great trail! Well signed, not too steep, beautiful waterfall!! We hiked a clockwise loop using the lower dirt road going out and coming back on Galena Falls trail. Approx 6 mi loop in about 3 hours.

GREAT hike!! The TH was a bit misleading. Make sure you pull over 500 ft BEFORE the TH in the Mt Rose Summit Parking Lot. Trail begins on the south side of the parking lot behind the bathrooms. Nice trail, dog friendly. Couple of narrow places, but overall a wonderful experience and hike!

I did the South Loop and GPS'd it at 20.75 miles.

Steep, Not a short cut.

very nice trail. the one downside is parking... you have to park on timberline drive which is a short walk to the trailhead but a bit of a walk from the Thomas Creek trail head after finishing the whole loop. other than that, great views and a nice steady incline. we're visiting from Oregon (I grew up here) and will definitely do this hike again when we come back!

Well marked trails. Creeks still running. Lots of shade on a hot day. Good multi-purpose trail: horses, mountain biking, dogs, and trail running/hiking. The only drawback was the part of the loop on the road -the rest of it was nice.

Good trail with an easy incline. Most of the hike is shaded which was nice.

Dry Pond is not so dry! Great trail, plenty of shade, and no crazy creek crossings.

No defined trail beyond short dirt road entrance, more a walk in the woods featuring Bald Eagles, Lake views and Beautiful forest. "Leave no trace ethics" highly suggested.
