Gorgeous scenery, great hike! Downloaded this track for offline viewing, came in handy providing even more detail than our topo map at times. The trail currently is little different than this track on the approach to Favre Lake... we followed the track only to have to bushwhack... looks like they've rerouted the trail. Follow the current trail signs out on the trail and you'll find Favre no problem. Flowers were in blooms everywhere, saw goats, buck & doe, grouse, cows, pika, golden eagles, tons of butterflies and bees. Trail is overgrown somewhat in areas, but always easy to follow. And yep, the stretch without water is up and down nearly 4 peaks, so hydrate well and be ready for a good workout!

Hard to think of alpine lakes and meadows in Nevada but so similar to the Southern Alps. Refreshing after the torrid August desert and mornings are free of traffic which eventually builds up mid morning with friendly families and pets on leash. An alternative to the ubiquitous and obnoxious casino scene.

Pretty easy. We started around 5 pm and made it up and back before dark. there were A LOT of knats up top. The trail just weaves back and forth up the mountain for a while, but you walk through millions of colorful flowers, then the top of the mountain has some rocks and pine trees. We'll do it again one morning.

From my experience, the best route to Thomas Peak is to generally bear NW from the lake toward the chute between the north and west ridges. Note that the area north of the lake is full of seeps and so probably the best route is to start on the east side of the lake and head north, skirting east of the boggy area until you're above it, then traversing westerly up the slope. The trickiest part is finding a safe route to the very top of the ridge. I found a small chute (see uploaded track). Note that the scramble from Island Lake to Thomas Peak is very strenuous and pretty exposed. Also, it would be great if HTNF or a good samaritan would cairn a route to Thomas Peak, to reduce damage to the alpine meadows.

Great hike. There were a few steep spots but not too bad. Trail is easily seen.

Hiked it yesterday. Beautiful every turn and not very traveled especially once over the pass. Trail conditions very great. a must hike if you head to the Ruby Mtns.

Beautiful trail. Recommend going mid July to see the wildflowers

Amazing wildflowers this time of year (mid-July)! Fairly easy hike, would be a great family day trip. There are lots of switchbacks so you hardly even notice the elevation gain!

Hike to get your lungs working. Allows for a great view of the valley and a hidden pocket of beauty.

Great trail. Fun day out with the kids. Wouldn’t class it as difficult.

Beautiful... there was still snow

This is one of our favorite hikes. Along the way are a number of small lakes and ponds. Lamoille Lake, right before the approach to Liberty Pass was still frozen.
Finding the way up the pass was challenging because of all the snow. Our boots got definitely wet. We used micro spikes which helped a lot with traction.
The view of frozen Liberty Lake was breathtaking.

I haven't done the entire hike, but this one offers great views of the valley if you hike to the second shack. No rock scrambling and only one fallen tree over the trail.

Did this hike with my wife in 2013. Awesome views. We went from Harrison Pass to S Smith creek first day. To Overland Lake second day and stayed there to relax an extra day. To Favre Lake after that and then out the last day. From overland to Favre was by far the toughest stretch. I think 13 mikes or so. 11 miles without water. Gorgeous.

If you are looking for a destination hike you have to check this one out. It’s not too bad of a hike and has lots of switchbacks. The last bit to Overland Lake is a tough climb but worth it when you see the lake! Pack a fishing pole because this lake is loaded with brook trout! Great views and there is even a waterfall. Plan this one in the summer because even in July there was still snow in areas

Very rewarding to get to this awesome lake. I wouldn’t mind fishing up here next time I go.

Love this hike! Went yesterday and there is about a foot of snow at the lake, but some patches have melted off. I've hiked it sevaral times and I love the spring there when the snow is melting and the wild flowers are blooming and the streams are flowing.

Amazing trail! Great camping spots, access to water (will need to filtered of course) and beautiful views. Hiked south to north, and loved it.

The trail was peaceful and beautiful. Just the right amount of difficulty for someone who doesn't hike as much as she would like.

Nice easy hike. Beautiful scenery.

Awesome! Be prepared: bring a water filtration pump, extra food, etc. There is a ~11mile stretch without water between overland lake and Favre. We did this in 2.5 days and 2 nights and it was a bit rushed. Bring good hiking buddies

The better hike is past Lamoille Lake to Liberty Lake. It is one of my all time favorites. I hiked there last week and found tons of wild flowers. Lamoille Lake is emerald green and full due to snow still melting. I disagree re: shade. I think there's plenty! If you like a more remote hike with few people this is it!

Wanted to do the loop between Timbercreek and Baker but at the top of Timbercreek,at the ridge, there is 8-10' of snow. Trail is covered and not discerned. We had to come back down same trail. Snow is still heavy above 9500'.

Non stop views of an absolutely stunning canyon until you reach liberty pass and have a birds-eye view of liberty lake. This hike shattered my stereotypes of Nevada.

You will definitely need a 4WD vehicle to get to this trailhead. You have to cross 3 creeks and the end to the Horse Canyon trailhead is quite rutted. It ends at a little meadow with a primitive campfire ring. Follow the trail to the right where there are wilderness boundary signs to begin the hike. You will have to cross the creek pretty early in the trail, so your boots will get wet especially when the creek is high. It is overgrown in spots and can be easy to get off trail (we did!) so having the GPS map is nice! The "end" (because I think it continues a bit further) is about 3.4ish miles in and has excellent views of the Santa Rosa crest. The snow clinging in the jagged peaks is pretty awesome in the springtime!

Nice outside of Elko. Hills, trees and streams are great for pictures.
