Great hike. If your looking for a casual great hike this a good one. Don’t let the first zig zag up scare you away. Even on a hot day there is lots of tree cover.

Hiked the ridge through from the Prospector Rd trailhead to Adams St. The views on the
ascent to the south are spectacular with mountains and trees galore. As soon as you round the mountain, your view north includes Helena, the rest of Mt Helena, and the rest of this basin we call home.

Fewer hikers and greater chance of seeing wildlife have brought me back to the Prospector side of the mountain numerous times. I'll gladly risk the bears to enjoy the solitude.

Grizzly Gulch Drive is a porous road that continues after Helena's Park/Main Streets end. There are plenty of residential drivers, dogs and the potential for grizzly bears (yes, seriously, very seriously, the road's name is not cutely named, it's realistic, grizzlies are known to attack sheep outside Helena and there are many signs posted in this area warning of the bear threat). So it's not a great place for trail running, as I found out the hard way, but Grizzly Gulch seems like a nice access road for mountain biking. Take bear spray.

A nice and flat trail, some rolling. Very pretty and popular for the locals.

LeGrande Cannon is a great trail for going out for a Sunday stroll. Their are no real climbs or decents involved, its pretty level. For those who crave a little more excitment. Half way down is a few trails that head up the NW side of Mt. Helena.

Nothing is real special about this trail. Great for those getting started. Has a few small gradual climbs but nothing to get off your seat for.
