Great trail...I took the 1906 up then the prairie trail down. Prairie trail is less steep so it’s easier on the knees. 1906 had a few people to pass and prairie had less traffic. Great views from summit

Steep, loose, rocky trail surface. Bring good shoes! Stop and smell the vanilla/butterscotch bark of a ponderosa pine 2/3 of the way up. I think 1906 trail is a bit prettier, and has a smoother trail surface.

Pretty trail leading to an excellent overlook of the Helena area. Fairly steep, consistent grade.

We decided to do this hike when we had a few hours to kill in Helena and the views at the top were worth the work. It was a little steeper than my kids (11 and 10) would have liked but they didn’t have much problem with it. We took the “hogsback” trail for the last quarter mile and it’s more loose rock over solid rock which made coming down a little more difficult. We did it in just over an hour with lots of breaks. Not much shade at all but there were a couple places where we picked up some nice breeze.

Good hike and great view. We went up this and down the powerline but pretty steep down... we saw a fawn on the way up.. worth the climb and very doable.

arrived at 930 a.m. on Saturday 8/3. plenty of parking I would not say this hike is little kid friendly. it's a big incline. no flattening out. no shade. lots of loose rocks. be sure to wear good shoes and bring lots of water. the top of powerline has a nice view of helena. and literally has a powerline pole at the top of the hill. I would recommend coming up from one of the other trails and coming down this one. the others are much more enjoyable.

I would highly recommend going up prairie trail to get the mount helena summit. arrived at 9:30 am on Saturday 8/3. plenty of parking available. there is a lot of shade on this trail which is nice and some great views. you are still climbing on this but it has places where it flattens out.

hiked this trail Saturday 8/3. arrived around 930 am and there was plenty of parking still available. nice bathroom available at parking lot. this trail is all incline and is very rocky. also there is no shade! there are alternative trail routes to summit mount helena. I would recommend doing that and coming back down powerline. the view at the summit is beautiful.

Great trails with lots of shade and great views.

This hike nearly killed me!

It’s a little tough going up, long steady incline. The views are amazing and you’re mostly in shade. There is a cave that’s gorgeous but there is graffiti in it ☹️.

Beautiful views, enough shade to keep cool. Some of the trail can be slippery because of the rocks, so bring proper shoes. Overall a great trail walk.

The re are of a healthy climb is a well thought out trail down on bike. Once on top ride the Helena Ridge for sweeping views and long straightaways. I chose to go down Emmitt’s Trail and it was challenging and fun.

This is a pretty easy trail with a couple of steeper points. Good views from the top.

Nice trail, not difficult. Signage not the best. But a good trip for a 2 hour hike

Loved this trail. The views are incredible! One tip if your new to the Helena trail system like I am, get the pro version of this app. You can pull it up when you get to the many spots the trails split to make sure you’re going the right way. It tracks you and you can see if your veering off course. Awesome feature. Super helpful!

This shit is not moderate! It’ll kick your ass! But soooo totally worth it!!!!

on Powerline Trail

Powerline to hogback trail is not casual and easy! Powerline is the steepest on the mountain, and hogback is very rocky, and moderately steep as well. A good route if you’re looking to get in some cardio and challenge yourself.

Extremely rainy day, we were soaked through our clothes by the end of the first mile. The trail was lovely however, we enjoyed watching the fog roll through up top.

Hiked for the first time for work with the MCC and it was very steep, but an awesome workout and gives you a good perspective on the scale of mountains. Also saw beautiful sights of the city below (and 2 deers off the side of the trail).

Great little trail! A good one to get in shape after a long, cold winter. Also rated for beginner to intermediate mountain biking.
