Hiked 06/02/2020. Simply amazing hike. I did this as a day hike and made it just below the peak before I was ran off by a mountain goat. There is still a lot of snow on the upper quarter of the trail but doable with good boots. Be sure to bring bug spray as they are somewhat bad in this area. The trail starts with lots and lots of shade and then slowly starts to open up. I did not run across any opportunities for water so be sure to go ahead and bring yourself 1 to 1.5 L of water - unless you want to boil snow. The views are well worth it so give this trail a chance!

Hiked 5/29/20. The trail is clear until about 1.5 miles from the peak. The warm weather has melted a lot of the tracks so being the first ones up for the day we had to do some route finding and just headed “up” until coming out of the trees. No snowshoes or other traction devices needed. One big curious goat roaming the summit who apparently didn’t get the memo about social distancing. We did lose some OR gaiters off our pack glissading down if anyone finds a pair. Posted a drone video on YouTube, check it out! https://youtu.be/Idi72X7ha7E

Not an accurate rating because we didn't actually get there, but AllTrails required a rating. The road is still impassible with snow. If there wasn't such a steep drop-off, we might have kept going, but wisdom told us to turn around. We were in a 4 wheel drive Suburban. Others in 4 wheel drive turned around, also. We will try again in a few weeks.

Was a great hike some snow but don’t need snowshoes, great views and cell service all the way up!

Looking to hike and camp at this location. Are you able to camp at scotchman peak?

Very steep hike with beautiful views and flowers all along the trail. There was snow after an hour 1/2 of climbing which made reaching the first summit an interesting challenge

This trail is my favorite. We hiked this 5/24/20. Contrary to the last review. The path is well traveled. 20-30 tracks in the snow all the way to the top in the snow. We did not get lost. Two fat guys in jeans, hiking boots and poles. No crimp-ons and no snow shoes.

Hiked this on 5.23.2020: had clearly snowed a few inches + since the last time somehow hiked; we broke trail the whole way up. Did not require snowshoes (we brought them but did not use); traction and poles were helpful. Would strongly advise having navigation if you’re going to hike this right now!

It rained the whole time. Trail is very muddy, involves sections over rock slides, washed out trail, and fallen/overgrown trees. Well worth the effort. Not a soul was on the hike. The road to the trailhead is hairy.

Summited Scotchmans peak yesterday. Snow line around 2 miles in. Used snow shoes to summit. Somewhat crowded at trailhead 65. Easy to lose sight of trail in snow, especially on the way down. Worth the trip.

Hiked this today and it is a great trail with so many different forest types all rolled into one hike. Loved it. Passed two other groups of hikers on our way out.

Nice trail, road leading in to trail head is a little rough. Great canopy of trees for a shady hike all the way to the lake. Couple of creek crossings, you can get a little wet. Great little beach for boat access too. The cedar grove close to the lake is beautiful with a bunch of 100’+ trees.

05/04/2020. Made it to 4520 feet (1.75 mile) before there was more snow than I wanted to hike in with 62 lb pack. On my way down I meet another couple heading up. Wanting a workout, I went to the trailhead, than went backup 1.75 miles. I never saw the other couple again, so I assume they made it to the top. Nice hike, lower trail in good shape, moderate steady grade (1300 feet /1.75 mile). Had to crawl under 2 trees. Nice view about mile in.
